I'm a fan of all of TLC's Real Estate programming. I would really like to see Trademark Properties and everyone flipping houses (or rehabbing their own), to know that 80% of construction debris is ending up in our landfills. This is stuff that can be recycled, reused or donated (and you spend less in costs of hauling away materials). Also, using sustainable materials, like no VOC paint, FSC certified lumber and recycled products, costs just about the same as products that are not eco-conscious. I hope the earth and the safety, comfort, peace of mind (including cost saving benefits), becomes a lifestyle, not an after thought.
A great way to save yourself some cash when remodeling is to visit a local Habitat ReStore. In addition to saving money when you buy recycled supplies and materials, the Habitat for Humanity Organization also accepts donated items that might otherwise end up in a landfill.
