What do you do during the day when your kids are at school? I just went back to work---My 3 are all in school now... they are all fairly close in age so I only took about 6 years off. Laundry, cooking and cleaning can only take so many hours up during the day. What other things do you do to keep yourself busy? Now that I'm working cleaning the house, laundry etc. does take more time in the evenings after the kids are in bed, but it's really not that bad (or as bad as I was expecting it to be at least!) I personally felt it was very important to be home with my kids for the first 3 years, but knew I would go crazy if I stayed at home once they were all in school. I'm a teacher, so in a sense I kind of get the best of both worlds---great hours, summers and vacations off with the kids. As a teacher I never had the desire to be one of the moms who were at my kids school volunteering all day. I go in a couple of times a year to help out at parties and I enjoy that a lot. To do it all the time though.... would bug me. Possibly could be the teacher thing---I don't want to be cutting out the little construction paper shapes on the sidelines....I'd rather be running the classroom. My mom on the other hand was always at my school and I really didn't love it. I remember kind of feeling like she was cramping my style so to speak! (especially from 5th grade on...) Just wondering what kinds of things SAHM's do during the day *besides* cleaning and PTA stuff. Enlighten me!
Get up at 5:30 to let dogs out, workout from 6 to 7:15 am; get kids off to school (ages 7, 12 and 14); take daughter to dentist from 8-9:30; see that I was quoted in Newsweek article on this show at dentist's office so get back online to read new posts and see this one so am responding; have a cup of tea; take dogs on walk (10-10:30) take dogs to vet for heartworm check, come home and clean up-dishes and make beds-go to lunch with friend, come home and work on taxes, pick up kids from school (7 yr old), help him with homework and then go get older kids from sporting events, make dinner, EVERYONE SITS AND EATS TOGETHER A HOME-COOKED MADE FROM SCRATCH HEALTHY MEAL EVERY NIGHT, do some laundry, get 7 yr old to bed, watch Top Chef with older girls, read in bed for awhile, make mad passionate love to my husband (because I am not too tired) and go to bed and start another similar day. NO TV during the day, NO TIME for bonbons. Best perk of all-we PLAY all weekend long, no grocery shopping or yard work or laundry or house cleaning. It's a good life and one I could not have working a 40 hr week. More power to you working moms.
Now that both my kids are in school that gives me the time i need during the day to help out on the family ranch. Which that alone takes up all my time during the days to cut out any school activities. I need to get home before the kids get home on the bus, so i do what i can to leave the house work for the night so that i can devote my time to the kids. On the days that i don't need to go to the ranch, then i catch up here at home. But i don't get very many of those days. I still make sure that my family have a home cooked supper ever night. My husband works his butt off, as every man does, so i just make sure he knows that he is appreciated, and the kids are eating healthy.
