Here's my typical day:

Get up at 5:30 to let dogs out; workout from 6 to 7:15 am (I have a great body for a 45 yr old); get kids off to school (ages 7, 12 and 14); take daughter to dentist from 8-9:30; see that I was quoted in Newsweek article on this show at dentist's office so get back online to read new posts; have a cup of tea; take dogs on walk (10-10:30) take dogs to vet for heartworm check; come home and clean up (do dishes and make beds); go to lunch with friend; come home and work on taxes; pick up kids from school (7 yr old) and help him with homework and then go get older kids from sporting events; make dinner, EVERYONE SITS AND EATS TOGETHER A HOME-COOKED MADE FROM SCRATCH HEALTHY MEAL EVERY NIGHT; do some laundry; get 7 yr old to bed; watch Top Chef with older girls, read in bed for awhile, make mad passionate love to my husband (because I am not too tired) and go to bed and start another similar day. NO TV during the day and NO TIME for bonbons. Best perk of all-we PLAY all weekend long, no grocery shopping or yard work or laundry or house cleaning. It's a good life and one I could not have working a 40 hr week. More power to you working moms.

I guess we're supposed to be very impressed by your typical day and the fact that EVERYONE SITS AND EATS TOGETHER A HOME-COOKED MADE FROM SCRATCH HEALTHY MEAL every night and "have a great body for a 45 year-old." (The relevance of that comment escapes me, unless of course you're assuming that working mothers have no time to stay in shape, which is a false assumption but not a surprising one given your arrogance.

Funny, I don't see the segment of time devoted to patting yourself on the back and gloating about your fabulous life. I have no doubt there's a daily slot for that; maybe it's the lunch with friends when you all scoff at those who don't share your lifestyle and toned abs.

I, for one, wouldn't want the life you've described. That doesn't mean that it's not a good life. It simply means that not everyone defines "good" the way that you do.

Now nowhere in my post was I trying to be mean spirited or make assumptions, like you presume. Why are you so angry? I am merely responding to the question of what a SAHM does all day. I am very busy (and I am proud of my body because I work very hard to keep in shape.) I don't think that is gloating. Calm down, ITS2008.

Taraj i think you should be very proud of everything you wrote , why not? i wish i could be disaplined enough to wake up early and work out.Its2088 is probly an overweight woman who has no more desire for anything let alone make passionate love to a man, so the bitterness of that comes out when dealing with other woman, by the way i too have a great body for a 40 year old, why not, more power to us.

Oh please. Your post was not a mere accounting of your typical day, it was a brag-fest. That's my opinion, and I'm entitled to express it here without being told to "calm down." Sorry if that displeases you.

I think taraj sounds like a welfare case. But instead of bragging about how she scams the system, it's centered around how she scams her husband, or whoever else is supporting her lazy rear.

Dawn,

Where are you coming from, really? What makes you so angry? I happen to be a lawyer who decided to stay home and raise her children instead of having daycare providers do MY job. My husband is a very successful otolaryngologist who is quite busy. It would be a very stress-filled life if we both worked. We made the decision that I would stay home so we could have a joyful life with our children. I am sorry you see that as being a lazy person who scams the system. By the way, I am pretty sure we subsidize the welfare system rather than scam the system considering we paid well in excess of $200,000 in taxes in 2007 (am I bragging now....well, maybe a bit.) Scam my husband?? What in the world does that mean? You are so cynical. I love my life and I wonder if you can say the same about yours. Since you refuse to tell your story, I guess we will never know.

Hope you've at least kept up on your CLEs. Don't know about your state, but in mine, if you don't, the State Bar can take your license and you can't practice. I've seen it happen too many times to count. End of the year is always a fun time trying to find CLEs. Thank God for on-line and the newer pod-casts.

I attended a CLE once and there was a lady sitting at the table who was a SAHM who was not only an attorney, but a writer. She had decided to take a breather from private practice and write historical fiction and murder mysteries. But as she said, it always helped to keep herself up to date because you never knew what the future held. Best to be forarmed AND forwarned.

Thanks for the insulting commentary. I can dish it right back: maybe you should spend less time in the gym and more time learning how to spell and how to construct a sentence properly.

Why would I be "bitter?" I don't want your life and quite enjoy the one I have. Is it that hard to accept that not everyone wants the same life as you? I simply find the sanctimonious, arrogant comments by a certain segment of the SAHM crowd (i.e., people like you) more than a little hard to take.

Yes, JLD, I am keeping up my license. One day I may go back. My dream job was to do tax law but when we moved to a small town, that became an impossibility. I ended up doing family law most of the time because that is where the demand was. Very depressing work, really....especially when there were kids involved which was the majority of the time.

To ITS2008, nobody is trying to convince you to "want" the life of anybody. You shouldn't read so much into what people say. If my commentary was a "bragfest" as you say, then I think it is more than reasonable to infer you are an angry femi-nazi. That's just my opinion.

Infer whatever you want. I'm not really too concerned about what strangers on the Internet think about me. I'll go right on inferring that you fit the narrow-minded, snooty SAHM mom archetype featured on such reality shows as Real Housewives of Orange County (or whatever that show is called).

I think that its great taraj that you have that kind of energy to do all of that in one day...lol Not me, i'm only 28 and have a 7 and 8 yr old, and most of the time and trying to find my energy! I myself don't have to get up until around 6:30-7:00 in the morning. I get the kids ready for the bus, and at 8:15, i'm following them out the door to head off to my families ranch, which is 1/2 hr away. We raise roping cattle, and horses. I have to be home by 3pm, so i'm here when the kids get off of the bus. Then its, helping them with homework, cleaning up the house, laundry, home cooked meal, baths, stories, dishes, bedtime, and then i get to take my shower or bath. i really don't have much of an actual schedule like you do though. Meal times and bed times are about the only schedule we can keep. Sometimes if things aren't going good at the ranch, i have to come get the kids and head back out. Thank goodness that i have a husband that supports me though...lol I do think that its great that you have given a write out of your day. Crazy isn't it. The busy life us women have Smile
I don't really consider what i do out at the ranch as work though. Other then my family it's my life. Soon it will be my kids and hubbies life also, for my parents have asked us to move out there so i can be there all of the time when my parents are working and i can keep up on it all. So when that time comes, which will be in a couple of months, i'll be asking you taraj on pointers to your energy....lol
Oh and i wouldn't worry so much about its2008. I think its great, and all her hate and cruel remarks to everyone who thinks your great, only makes her look like a jealous and very hateful person. Eek

Wow, exaggerate much? I made ONE snide remark to ONE person who thinks Taraj is great in response to her nasty remarks about me. I notice that you haven't labeled that person hateful.

If you enjoy posts from people bragging about their lives, that's fine. I can't stand boasting, so I found it obnoxious and commented. That doesn't make me jealous nor does it make me hateful.

Wow, there sure is a lot of drama here. I thought we'd just be discussing TV.

I love being a SAHM. I don't get up early to work out, though. Wink
