I just can't understand the intense negativity here. I'm the first person to poo-poo reality shows, they are obvious bits of dramatic fluff-- but the idea of a woman going back to her career creates THIS kind of response?!!

As a woman raised by a full-time executive mother, and a father who worked and was house-husband part of the time, I say SHAME on every woman here who would condemn a woman for wanting to have a career, be it as a mother of 1 year or 10 year olds. I have nothing but admiration and love for my mother's drive and courage, she was an outstanding role model in showing me that any dream is possible if you just go for it. She was not stuck in a 19th century ideal that believes women should be caring for the children, and after 38 years of marriage my folks are still totally in love.
I think the choice of how you raise a family is for the most part individual-- every family is different and has different needs-- but while some women are happy to be at home, others want to have a career. It's a CHOICE we all have, and for those who choose not to have a career, so be it, but when I see negative reactions like this, it makes me think a component of regret is surfacing, a desire to do the same but feeling unable to do so. If this is the case, all I can say is this:
Do your kids a favor and show them that anything is possible. You don't have to stop loving your kids to follow your dreams. Men are capable of caring for children too! Or so what if some time is spent in day care? If you are happy in your choices, your family will be happy-- trust me. And every woman deserves to be happy, no matter what it is that makes her so- if it's staying at home, so be it, if it's having a career or persuing goals, so be it...but we should all support each other for the precious freedoms that we have gained that make it possible.
SHAME ON YOU ALL WHO WOULD CONDEMN A WOMAN FOR MAKING A CHOICE THAT MAKES HER HAPPY. You must be unhappy yourselves to take such a self-righteous tone.
