im looking for help actually! im writing a thesis for uni on the dead body and im looking at memorial tattoos. im wanting to know more about why people choose to get them, without the usual answer of "to remember". e.g. with portraits is it in part so that the person looks to have aged, that they are once again on living skin? also the placement of these tattoos, why put one on your back where you will rarely see it if it is to remind you of a loved one? finally, is a tattoo better than say - carrying a picture, or does it simply invoke conversations?

sorry if any of these questions sound callous but i honestly would like some opinions on the matter. even help in locating material on the topic would be helpful!
