There is a certain adreneline rush I feel when I know I am going to get tattooed. I went for a consult the other day to get a design I draw quite a bit and was told to get the detail it would have to be bigger - so I am graduating to the arm. It is not a sleeve - still to nervous about going down the arm - it is more of a shrug - shoulder to upper arm. It is like talking about getting what you covet most.

I hail to you a grand *Congrats*!.

From a womens stand point that's a huge and monumental step to make. Originally I had only two tattoos on my back. My comfort level was the deciding factor for that placement.

Since then I have awakened the ink beast that rests within! Personally I had to free myself of being worried of other peoples opinions. I now have 1/2 a sleeve. *Hooray* It feels so much apart of me! I couldn't imagine not having it in the first place. Wink

Thank you, TQ. I have to do the drawing again and make sure it is going to work and then we shall see. I am trying to hide words in it.
You seem to be really open to things so I wanted to recommend a movie to you - "What the bleep do we know". It may be kind of a stretch as it is about quantum physics and reality - but there are parts of it that I think of in terms of tattooing.

Is that movie available or rental in VHS or DVD? Curious?...... Smile

Yes - I have got it on DVD at Target, so you should be able to find it anywhere - if not - you can get it thru Netflix. I am not sure about VHS - so much is now just being made available on DVD. I would be really interested in what you think...Like I said - it could really be a stretch.

to further my page 1 thought, everyone hopefully has an inner reason for getting tats. w/o going into great detail, I looked up to an older cousin for years before getting my first. He didn't have many, but the they had meanings and inspired me. I was 16 (when parental waiver forms were still accepted), before tattooing was cool when I got my first. Not important but it's a sprint car (racing) on my leg. I have since continued from the fearful first to now being 29 years old with 19 inkings. I had planned on being waste up by age 30, but ain't gonna make it. Money/Time!? Live Life, Taste Death. Appreciate for what they mean to you, who cares what others think. TQ, that's my think on ink Wink

I can honestly not remember a time when I did not want a tattoo. My dad had a small one on his forearm that said "Jim Tot" for which he will never explain what that means. My uncle had a USMC bulldog on his forearm. I can remember sitting on their laps as a little girl, running my finger over the ink and being amazed that it was apart of the skin. I think that is what I love best about it. It isn't something that is on my skin - it is my skin - it becomes a part of me - my DNA.

My how I do run on!

I see you have a great think on ink!

I'm sure you've heard this tale before. Always wanted one since the age of nineteen. However strict english conservative upbringing prevented me from doing so. Also I never knew of any ink pots in my family.

At the magic age of thirty five I went and startd my ink collection. I'm still looking for that perfect pirate tatoo!

I don't really think of it as an addiction, but I must confess watching Miami Ink recently and hearing that familiar sound of the needle and seeing the ink being injected into skin made me want to get another! In some way, it could be an addiction. Or more like Pavlov's dog. Whenever the bell was wrung the dog came for his food, because he had salivated. Whenever I hear the needle going, it must mean I'm salivating in a sense! LOL! Just got another today, BECAUSE of Miami Ink.

I know what you mean, it had been almost 5 years since I got my last tattoo and since the show has started I've gotten two and am thinking of ideas for a third.

hello inkdog,

"kind of look up to you"...... not hard, seeing as my post is directly above yours. LOL just kidding!

It's great to meet you Smile An inky thanks for your kind thoughts. Smile

I liked your choice of word "amped"!. I too get so amped I could light a Christmas tree for the whole season! You menioned having a five hour session soon. WOW that's true ink to the core!

In your case my advice to calm your excitment would be to..... Make sure you eat before you go to the shop. Show up half an hour early. Just to take in your surroundings and try to slow down the "amps". Sit with a relaxing beverage of your choice. Bring a portable music player and listen to some relaxing music. I hope this helps a little. Can I ask what are you getting done? Smile

tatqueen.....think im gonna have a shot of vodka about 15 min prior to inking...i always do...after all these years still get a little on edge right before ink when i see the needle come out. helps me relax a little. after first 10 min of ink time i am cool. anyways i am getting a half sleeve, from my left elbow all the way up and over my shoulder. getting a whole vegas theme done. martini glass, poker chips, flaming dice, face cards, and all the gaps, if any, will be filled in with green, same color as a poker table. truly amped. it will be a 2 session sitting i'm told. part 2 three weeks later after healing.

Smile

Inkdog,

Well....I guess you didn't need my advice about having a "relaxing" beverage! I think you have that one cornered. LOL Your sleeve idea sounds classic. I'm sure your colours will be very bold looking against the green back splash. I think sleeves are one of the best body placements by far. Your able to see it whenever you want. I couldn't imagine not having mine. To this day when I gaze upon it. I still have that feeling of pure awe!

I have two great looking tattoos on my back. However unless I'm attached to a three way mirror. I can't see them straight away. I love the "Koi Dragon" soon to be leg sleeve. I've seen many Asian themes and the colours and shading are amazing. Personally I love dragons always have. Infact I have a medieval dragon on my back. Smile

hey vic,

Thanks.... For letting me know about your Saturday ink Session. You lucky little ink pot!! You certainly know how to make a girl drool some more... over her soon to be ink! LOL

I'm counting the days to my next tattoo......three weeks and two days to be exact. It will be a five hour session with my arist "Sara" Miss Queen of Shade.

Three hours of ink is no small piece. Infact that's quite the sit down. Glad to see I'm not the only one supporting the medieval theme! Wink Cheers

In my mind, it's not addiction. I find it a way of self expression through my body. I'm not going to lie though, I love getting it done, and when I do it feels like a fix in a way.

Now that you've told me some inky gossip about your artist. I will have to take a gander where I buy my ink mag "International Tatoo Art". That's a great read! I guess tomorrow night will feel like Christmas Eve to you. Perhaps you'll have a "Vodka-nog". LOL Wink

tatqueen.....that's why i like you full of good ideas....hadn't thought of that but hmmmm..but seriously.I.went like 5 years since my last tattoo...have 9 already....but that's how long a drought I went thru with no ideas. All of a sudden I had 8 passionate ideas at once..it rains but it pours..so I am crazzzyyy to get back in the chair....36 hours left...lol....probably be dumping about 5 grand over the next 2 years...take me that long to get everything done....Really happy cause I was depressed everytime I thought of body cause I wanted more, however I am not one who will get a tat unless I am passionate about the art. Keep up with the mssges. Love hearing from ya! One of the few people who have really good thoughts, comments, and insight. Oh wait! 35 hours now. lololol. Obsessed? Don't be silly. not me! Razz

Inkdog,

I know what you mean about going through droughts. Then having a monsoon of ink ideas flow through ones mind! LOL

For instance..... I will have an appointment ready to be inked. Prior to this my mind will jump gears and go into fifth. Yet again another ink idea has been created. My artist "Sara" upon hearing this simply shakes her head and smiles.

Well I must say this, drum role if you please.........
"Happy Ink Day". Especially one day before your ink session! I'm not even getting any ink and I'm still getting pretty amped. zzzzzzzzzzzzz

Ink does cost a lot but what doesn't in this life! Some choose to sink it on alcohol, smoking, fashion, makeup and hair. I simply choose ink. It never goes out of fashion because of it's special meaning to the recipient. If you look after it keeping it out of the sun. You will have a treasure for life. Speaking of treasures I have always wanted a pirate tattoo. As of this morning I know what it will be. It's amazing how ones ideas just come about! Wink
