heck, i dont have a funny story, but my first tattoo i got, i fell asleep, therefore i knew tattoos were my life and soon to be the most amazing career i could come into
Same here gurlapprentice! I too fell asleep during my first tattoo, it was on my chest no less. That was 11 years ago and it took me a little while to realize that this is what I should be doing. So I have now been tattooing for a couple of years.
I've never passed out, but I have had clients do it. He he, and they were all guys. For a while there, I had a running tally on pass outs. After the first couple that did, I quickly learned the signs on when it will happen. So when you feel em going cold, stop right there and get em a coke. LOL.
When I got my first tattoo, my sister was with me. Just before hand, we were looking at flash and she was picking out different ones and saying, I just might get one after you're done.
*fast foreward* So I selected a celtic knot with a rose on my back. 2"x4" apx. As the artist was doing the outline, and she's went over a nerve, I'd flinch just a tad. My sister everytime would cringe. When I was done, I looked at her and said "You ready?" I think her face turned about 3 shades of pale. She flat out said "No way!" Since then I've gotten 3 more. I don't think she'll be getting one soon.
my first tattoo was done on my foot. as with many newbie 18-year-olds looking to get a tattoo, i was stupid enough to pick some flash kanji off of the wall that roughly translated to "artist"... now anybody that has done research should know that this also roughly translates to "geisha", or japanese escort, if you will. being chinese, japanese and irish, i failed to heed my own instincts, and went for it on the spot. wow, that hurt like hell... right on the bone, nose scrunched up, and cringing the entire time, i swore i'd never get another. since then, of course, i've felt the need to redeem my first and worst tattoo... i know have a quarter sleeve on my right arm (black waves crashing around a nautical star, with a banner underneath that reads "the helping hand", a quarter sleeve and chest piece on my left arm and pec (giant black and red koi up and down my arm and onto my shoulder, black waves, and a red lotus on my chest—very Yakuza), and my chinese name in brush script down the inside of my left forearm. i still say that my foot hurt the most, followed closely by the needle digging into my clavicle and sternum while inkin' up my chest piece. am i finished? i doubt it. so now, six years after my first tattoo, i've dropped about two G's on ink, and won't/can't stop until i feel sufficiently covered. if anyone is ever in eugene, or, stop by The Parlour, and talk to my man Igor... he does amazing Japanese art...extremely talented.
Dateline: Desert Storm October 1990 Portland Oregon Burnside Tattoos 12 am wanted a tattoo to take to war with me, was shipping out in 2 weeks- got a little heart with ivy on my ankle. Husband held my hand and hell yeah it hurt. Swore i would never get another one. Now I have a beautiful set of wings on my back and oh yeah, I am a tattoo artist-go figure.
When I was getting the inside of my left bicep done, I was so comfortable in the position I was in, I fell asleep. When I was getting my koi on my right calf, I got a cramp and jumped up while the artist still had the machine going. You can't tell where he went off the stencil, but I know it's there.
I fell asleep during the one on my neck...It suprised me because of all the hype that I went through..."it's going to hurt so bad", and "I really don't think this is a good idea" from my tattoo artist :P...And not really a funny story, but has anyone else got the inside of their ear done? Now, that's a funny feeling!
The inside of my lip did not hurt as much as I thought it would have. The thing that was unpleasant was the taste and the after care. Surprisingly, it healed within a few days.
i would have to say the tattoo on the top of my foot hurt pretty good. I didnt realize that until about 10 minutes into it, i was like oh man! i should have picked a different spot. But i dealt with it. Sat in the chair for over an hour, now i'm glad i had it done. I love tatts! Even though i know what foot tatts feel like, im going to get my other foot done eventually. Gotta love the pain baby
Going to get ink this weekend. Just got off the phone with one of the artist. I have been putting this off mainly because I did not have the cash.. Maybe I can get some work on my toon leg!!
I hope this place starts to get more people to post!!
I am 20 years old, and I finally worked up enough nerve to get my first tattoo. It was on my calf, a fairy by Amy Brown, called Bubble Rider. It was very painful to get, but the worse pain came the next morning. I fell a sleep with the fresh tattoo on my sheets, needless to say the sheets stuck to the tat, and I had to peel it off. You can't tell now, but boy did it hurt!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
hey navywife, just wondering, did you have the tattoo cover when you were sleeping? whenever i get a new tattoo i keep it wraped the first night after i get it done. Its a little annoying, but it works good for me. Just wondering.
Well, it didn't happen to me, as pain doesn't really bother me.. but my dear friend and tattoo artist has a great story about a girl who passed out.. she proceeded to fall on the floor and wet herself. LOL! Another was leaning over the back of a chair, and her purse was on the floor below... yup, she puked, right into her purse. All I have to say is... glad it wasn't me! hehehe
I got my first tattoo when I was 46 years old. I went to a local tattoo parlor that I'd read about in the newspaper, because I liked the owner's attitude. The shop's usual clientele seems to be bikers and teenagers, and there I was, obviously someone's 46-yr-old mom, sitting there getting inked. I watched the other customers come in, take one look at me and just about drop their teeth. That alone would have made the experience worth while. I had so much fun watching everyone's reactions to me that I was sorry when the design was all done.
I did have a cover on it, but since I toss and turn ALOT when I sleep I guess it fell out. Never Agin will I amke that mistake, next time 2 bandages with duct tape!!!!!!!!
I saw a show on Discovery last night that showed a guy in the process of getting color done on a rather elaborate tattoo on his chest. I think he was just about coming into tears. I had to laugh.
I've never passed out during my tats but I took my friend to my guy to get her very first one and she passed out right after he started! It was funny at the time because she said "if you can do it so can i" yeah - how about no?? She'll never live that one down!!
My tat's on my shoulder blade. Toward the end I was tired and cranky and let out yelp. My artist let out a blood curdling scream, followed by "Ya gotta love the pain" done in his best heavy metal maniac voice. I about fell out of the chair laughing at him. I found out really quick if I let out a yelp or any loud noise of pain he was going to yell about loving the pain.
It was quite the experience between my artist, the other artist and their hangers-on, my Godsister and Godson and everything that went with it.
I found out I could pick up floor tiles with my toes - wearing boots and feet a foot off the floor - yes it (the outline) hurt and I'm not ashamed to say it but not one tear was shed - I was laughing so much at everything going on around me.
My artist had a pet snake and my Godson and I got to watch the snake eat a mouse, not so amusing but fascinating none the less. The people dropping by were a varied mix from the conservative business man with a wild side to just flat out freaky, but it was entertaining.
When I got done I told my artist the tat was burning and very itchy and he asked if it was where my tat was. I told him yes and he asked me to turn around and then smacked the puddin' out of my back. I gave him the dirtiest look and he started laughing and asked me if it burned anymore. It didn't so I had to hug him. Keep in mind this guy was over 6' tall and I'm only 5' tall and he was twice my size.
