When I got my first tattoo I was 18. My grandmother had just passed on, she was my second mom. So I got her name with a heart design on my lower back. I did alot of research on Lloyd he has been an artist since he was 16 he was 34 at the time. I looked at alot of his work and saw he was for me! I am happy I picked him! I do have to say I am Asthmatic; I had to have shots since I was a little kid every few weeks. So I am so afraid of needles. Anyway- He was putting the stencil on and I passed out cold, I was falling, he reached out and grabbed my arm just before my face him the concrete floor. I needed some laffy taffy. About a half hour later he was able to put the first line on my back well......I did It again almost fell off the chair. But about 4 hours later he was finally able to finish. I am so proud of his work I love showing it off! Still to this day I pass out every time new work is started.....Woopsie

I too passed out when I got my 1st one. I was at a swap meet/show and in a booth surrounded by big tough tattooed men drinking beer. I get in the chair and get settled in - had been too nervous to eat or drink anything. The tat is on my lower tummy/hip area so my pants were undone a bit. I didn't want to breathe and move the tat area. Yeah, no sugar in my bloodstream, no oxygen going in and out, I woke up looking at the ceiling, surrounded by artists and tough tattooed guys (who were snickering). I was brought a dew and a candy bar, given a minute and was told that my artist could work with a moving canvas but not a comatose one on the floor!!! :-) He also said he would beat up any of the guys that laughed at me. :-) He got tipped well . . .
My second one is around my upper thigh. I did not pass out, but while the artist was working on the inner thigh he rested the VIB.RAT.ING gun against me, in a sensitive area. Against the wishes of the friend that was with me - I asked him to move it . . . Never a dull moment with me. :-)

It seams I pass out cold everytime. I dont really know why but as soon as the needles touch my skin I almost fall over... Happily I go the same artist so he understands, and is really nice about it.

blondiet, Here's a funny one. Once a year I am petrified when it's my standard annual exam. I also must give blood via needle. It's so ridiculous that my ten year old "baby girl" stays with me to hold my hand. The blood techs at this point get a chuckle. For my fear is facially apparent. When I roll up my blouse sleeve they see my half "ink" sleeve. Asking me in a surprised manner "Your not scared of needles are you?". I usually respond "No just yours!". LOL

Thanks tatqueen! It was quite the day - after 5.5 hours, I should have just had him leave it there for a little stress relief!!!! :-)

OK... I get severe motion sickness. If I go through a windy mountain pass I better be completetly spaced out on dramamine or I'm skunked. Yesterday my boyfriend and I went flying in a small bush plane a friend of ours owns. OMG!!! I was queazy for most of it and almost made it to the end when right before we banked to come in for a landing we caught some air and dropped suddenly and came back up. I lost it in a bag. Weirdly, one of my thoughts were getting tattoed has got to be easier than THIS!!! Motion sickness is sheer torture. Ruby

Motion sickness is WAY worse. Dramamine for me, too!
When I got my first tattoo 19 years ago, my friend Carol saw it, and decided she wanted one, too. She got one done (different design), and her roommate "Joe" (I can't remember his name) decided HE wanted one. Carol and I both had ours on our back/shoulder blade. "Joe" got a dragon (I think) on his upper arm. The guy was about 5 minutes into the work when Joe asked him to stop for a minute. He had to have a drink of water, walk around for a minute, before he'd let him finish. About ten minutes later, it happened again. We were laughing, poor guy, and we teased him mercilessly for months. Carol and I had both had babies three years before, so we knew REAL pain. Joe was terrifed of needles, but got the work done and it came out great! I haven't seen him since a year or two after that, so I wonder how it looks now and if he ever got any more tattoos!

Cool Tracat, good to know that thanks, further convinces me I'll be all right... I've not had kids but I've had some unpleasantness at the doctors office....like having a fingernail removed without the novacaine(sp?) shot fully working(got a huge splinter under it that went down to my first knuckle) now I know why the chinese used THAT for torture. I did almost pass out during that one.

My sister got her first and only tattoo about a year after I got mine. I told her it wasn't that bad so she decided to do it. She didn't tell me when so was going so she went with her husband. He has three large tattoos on his forarms so he knows the pain. She decided to get it on the outside of her ankle. Well she came home and told me the story. The artist was just about to start and her hands got real sweaty. Then she started hearing a ringing in her ears and the room started to spin. The last thing she remembered was a dark tunnel. ha ha. My brother-in-law told me she finally snapped out of it when she started sliding down the chair and he caught her. MY baby sister is too funny.

Heh.. well, I was absolutely FINE during my first tattoo, which was a medium-ish random design on my lower back. Yeah. Not a lot of thought went into that one. Anywho. The tattoo that I'm working on now is a huge back piece, which required quite a bit of design time while I was in the shop. After waiting around three hours for the artist to finish the design, he took me back to the booth, put the stencil on, and started to work. He got *A* swirl done when everything went dark and noises sounded like they were coming from the end of a looooong tunnel. He had to get someone to bring me a sugar pill (yuck) and some water and I had to do some deep breathing to get everything under control. I did, and three hours later, the lines were all done... but I was pretty darn embarrassed. I was surrounded by guys with full sleeves and such, and here I am, passing out after a swirl. Sigh. Maybe things will go better when I go back for the shading. And that's my story! Oh, here's the tattoo so far: Unfinished Back Tattoo

I almost passed out when I got my first tattoo, I think it was from a mixture of excitement and anxiety. I know it's not from a fear of needles.

usually people pass out due to the adreneline running through their body. I don't have a fear of needles, but i know even when i go to get piercings, i need to eat and drink something before hand and after, so i don't pass out. First time getting my ears pierced, my mom and I made it up to the register to pay, and the next thing i knew i was going white and down to the floor. If someone hadn't grabbed my arm, i probably would have collapsed right into a counter or something.
