Hi, I am 32 and am going to be going soon for my first tattoo. I was wondering, what the limitations are art wise? I dont free hand my art....I create graphic art. If I were to design my own tattoo using poser or PSP, is there any limitaions I would have to watch out for font, detail or color wise?
And yet another question (so sorry to introduce myself with so many )... I want a tattoo for my own reasons on the back of my neck ...no other place will do. However, my husband is raising his eyebrow at this and he wont tell me why....probably because I just stopped the "Ok you can get a tattoo if I can get a belly button piercing" because I am now to old to pull one off without looking goofy and went for the "Ok if you do I do to" approach and he's holding his peace so I dont back down. *laughs* Is this a painfull area? If so...um can it be like rated on a pain scale with 1 being a little ouch and 10 being I think I may die now? Dont get me wrong...I have 5 children so I am not a stranger to pain...but I want to make sure I am prepared mentaly if it is going to be worse then "oh ouch". If I am gonna have to curse I wanna think of some impressive ones first
The limits in artwork are really only limited by how good your artist is, IMO. Some general things to watch out for though is size...something very detailed is not going to work if you want it tiny. The smaller the tattoo, the less detailed it will have to be.
As for pain...this is a question no one will be able to answer for you. Everyone processes pain differently, and where one person will say it's an extremely painful place, the next will say it didn't hurt at all. Tattoo's hurt, there is not if, ands or buts about it, but how each person processes that pain is going to determine how MUCH it hurts. I process the pain well, I have yet to have a tattoo that was more than a mere annoyance as far as sensation.
My advice is to forget about the pain. It will only be a few hours (or however long your tattoo takes) and when it's over, you will forget about it. Worrying about the pain will only make you more stressed out and probably actually make it a bigger deal in your mind than it really is. Relax, find an artist you are 100% comfortable with, eat a few hours before your tattoo, don't drink or take any aspirin for 24 hours before your tattoo (thins blood) and get a good nights rest the night before, and you will be just fine.
hehehe Pops! It's funny...everyone I know just about has tattoos and none of them have just ONE. My best friend has this whole weird frog fascination so has 4 frogs of various types in various areas. They all say the same...it's hard to stop at one... But we will see...lol
Thank you Both for your input Im definately going to do it I just wanted some input from someone NOT afraid of loosing a tattoo op. or sleeping on the couch (That was a joke I promise )
If your tattooist is good...they can put anything on you. ...If you want it..don't even worry about the pain. Mine hurt like hell, and I can only tell you how much I love the end result.
My artist created a 10inch and an 11 inch version of my tatt and asked which one..And I chose the largest. He said that's good cause "No one who gets their first tatt ever says , "I wish I had gotten it smaller"..only "I wish I had gotten it bigger."..And that's the truth.
You have 5 kids? Pain is relative. Our brains store pain memories ans if you have given birth, you're golden to get a tatt. I myself, never had kids, but I have a median to high pain tolerance (was very high when I was younger). I heard that the back of the neck isn't bad at all. Besides, the pain IS worth the end result. It's really not that bad, you'll be fine. The artist can do a small line and let you see how it will feel. The outline always hurts worst, and after your endorphins kick in, it all goes pretty numb. Hello spiritual_tempest I am in full agreement with serijules! The smaller the tattoo the less detail you have as an option. From all the tattoo art that I have seen it seems the sky is the limit! Depending on the skill of the tattoo artist. As for the pain level. Being a mom myself having a natural birth way superedes the pain of getting a tattoo! If it's your first tattoo experience it will be so new and exciting for you. That you won't even notice the discomfort you initially experience!
Yep, I have to agree....Child birth is so much worse than getting a tattoo!!! I'm not gonna lie and say it doesn't hurt, because it hurts like heck. The place that hurt the most for me was my stomach. The outline is the worse, but the coloring part was better. That goes for all of the ones I have got. But as soon as it's done, you forget the pain. It's just like having a baby. You know it hurt, but you forgot the pain after you saw your baby!
If you have five kids you should be used to pain. I have 7 tats and my next to the last one was on the back of my neck, it wasnt that bad at all I actually went to sleep while mine was being done. It is a memorial to my mom and covers most of the back of my neck. The outline is always the worst part and after a few minutes of that the endorphines kick in anyway so you actually become somewhat numb to what is going on. If you have a good artist they will explain to you what is going on and check on you all thru the process and most will give you a break if you need one. Just remember whatever pain you feel during the process is going to be nothing to the joy you will experience after your new tattoo is done and you and all around you can admire your one of a kind new piece of ink....By the way the are VERY addictive they are like lays no one can get just one ....LOL good luck and congrats.
Do what I do when you get inked in a new area… go in thinking about the worse pain that you have ever felt and how this will feel 10x worse than that. Tattoos hurt and some places are nasty.
Then, when the needle hits, you will be happily surprised =)
