I love "Honey we're killing the kids" and watched every episode last season. I'm 45 and have struggled with my weight my entire life - and have succeeded for the most part through a healthy diet and exercise to maintain a healthy weight for the majority of my adult life, which makes me a hardcore exercise/health "preacher" to those around me. My daughter, who is overweight has finally decided to listen to my preaching and has started to diet and exercise. While watching the show which aired yesterday, 4/8/07, she made an interesting observation. While Felicia's pedigree is certainly impressive, as was that of her predecessor, it would be much better if the show had a cohost who had personally struggled with weight issues and could relate to the families on an emotional level with the difficulties of dieting. Getting the professional advice of an exercise physiologist and dietician is paramount for these families, but I think they also need the support of someone that has been overweight, and has been successful at making healthy lifestyle changes.
I totally agree! But they also need someone who can teach them the basics of how to cook and make it look and taste good. Face it these people are being asked to use ingredients and methods they know little to nothing about. To me it’s like saying to a kid here’s the keys to the car kid you figure out how to get where you want to go. The broccoli in the tofu stir fry looked cooked to death; I wouldn’t want to eat it. I think the frozen stir fry at the end was such a hit because it was a failsafe recipe that someone who relies on processed foods can do and feel good about, but without some backup skills how can Mom continue to be successful?
That broccoli did look way over cooked. No wonder the curly headed kid gagged on it. And what was up with the corn starch in the recipe for the sauce? Since when has corn starch been a healthy ingredient?
