We've tried it all. Truth is, I have two major snags with my children: getting out the door in the morning and getting into bed at night. I know they are related, but both times bring huge fights. We've tried sticker charts, pom pom jars, and even a plastic piggy bank w.fake money. I'd let them earn a dollar towards a fun purchase... Of course, it takes 5 fake dollars to make one real dollar. But still, I feel like it's a game and I have to change it up every few weeks or month or so. How about you? Do you use any of those things to help encourage/reward good behavior??
Seriously, I have to keep on my boys (5/7) to "Stay on task"... I find that being firm and calm works for everyone...
We don't rely on the reward concept - because for us, good behavior is the expected climate. Rewards are given for grades, number of books read, etc. Of course, all kids are different and what works for some, may not for others.
