actually, i WOULD go with a chocolate or rich color in that family--the brown/blue combo is popular now so you should be able to find plenty of accessories i.e. shower curtian, towels, etc. add some brushed silver accents like handles and shower rings. what's on the floor? if you can, replace with neutral linoleum (cheaper) or even a washed wood looking laminate. do what you can now so that you can live with it and not fight it!

I've painted tiles and laminate before in my bathroom and they came up great. Transformed grey tiles, dark green bench and wood grain cupboards (yuk!) all into into off-white color. Tiles were half strenth color of my cupboards. The paint was not recommended for the benchtops but we are just careful not to scratch them. So maybe this will help tone down the colors of your sink and bath and toilet. Just go to your hardware store and ask for tile paint and laminate paint. What I used was a 3 step process (clean, prime and 2 coats of paint).

The other thing you could look if your sink etc are anything but plastic, is look for a bathroom painting service. Can't think of what they are called but the do an enamel paint over existing surfaces. I done this in an investment property and it totally transformed an ugly bathroom into a pristine white bathroom. I think you are limited to white only.
