Hi, My friend and I needing ideas for motocross themed bedrooms. Our boys have asked us to redo their bedrooms since they have just began racing. We have been talking about painting their rooms like a mx dirt track; but the only holdup is how to paint the dirt (or actually make it look like dirt and not just brown). We both have ordered wall murals that reflect each childs motorcyle, gear, etc. and want to display them when we figure out what we should do? Does anyone have any ideas, suggestions, etc?? Anything is greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Hollie

I don't know if my suggestions are any good -- but I'll offer anyway.. It seems to me that brown/dirt walls might not render in a fashion that would be satisfying to the kids -- or you as parents, unless you hire a mural painter, or personally have high skills in such activities..

It MIGHT be an interesting idea to explore painting the walls as if it were the stands of spectators watching the race, instead.. It's pretty easy for even novice painters to make the blur of faces and bodies that are in the average stand of spectators.. Only one or two faces here and there need be rendered clearly.. The rest can be colored circles.. I'll bet you've seen murals where crowds are painted in this fashion..

The wall murals you purchased MIGHT be best used over the doors of the kid's closet, but I don't know their size -- and they may not fit doors.. Bedspreads, rugs - could be the dirt brown..

It might be cool to consider black and white checkered flags for the curtains?

Another thing -- the "leathers" that these racers wear are very colorful - using THAT pallet might be an interested idea, too..

Do BMX racing sites have signage or lights to tell the racers to start? Reproducing those could be cool.

All of these thoughts may not work for your rooms - but maybe one or two concepts might..

I'll bet others will have great suggestions, too. Good luck with your rooms!

Hi, I have read your section about 3 times and it keeps coming back to me. I am probably the most far out there person on this site as my wesite on webshots does prove lol. So take my ideas anyway you like(and I don't have boys that is why this one has caught me off guard)so here goes anything. As far as dirt goes it's not all one color so i will ask if you plan on doing the whole wall or just along the bottom? And if I may ask what kind of gear do you got? I like the checkered flag curtains. Maybe a chair rail of a tire print? Then you could do two different colors top and bottom maybe in their team colors. helmet lamps, tire rim end tables,or have a starting line on one wall and a finish line on the other and do your tire prints between the two and use the dirt theme in a path using like the ragging method with browns and grays, and beige, take a pair of handle bars and mount by the door for bookbags and jackets. behind the bed put their numbers on the wall really big like a headboard of sort. Just have fun I know I do when I do my girls rooms and remember don't go over board with money next year may bring on a new sport and all new ideas that why I suggested a lot of painting it's cheap enough to cover and start over lol. Oh yeah if you do want to paint a scene remember to do it in (Iuse sidewalk chalk)or just chalk with a damp rag to erase if you don't like it then paint and wipe the extra chalk off. Good Luck Please let us know what you do seeing so many leave us hanging and wondering Wink Smile

Hi,
I have created an entire line of shelves devoted to motorcross themed rooms. I have other furniture as well like drawer pulls, bed side tables, clocks, corner shelves, curtain rods and many other ideas. Please anyone interested in seeing what I have got please send and email to chrisgsells@hotmail.com and ask for pictures of furniture.

I personally would use actuall sand and put it on the wall with some glue. I like the checkered curtain idea. I would also use a tire as a table or you can cut and put together a chair. I would also maybe put the flaggers stand (if that is correct) as a pole /poster part of their bed. You could also take one of the tires and paint the bottom and run tread marks across your wall.
