You inspired my wife and me to make the trip of a lifetime exactly one year ago. We trekked around Australia - enjoying nature, spotting wildlife, and doing the things that you too, probably would have loved. I have to admit I imitated you more than once as we spotted exciting animals. I even wore my “Steve Irwin” shorts when appropriate (see photo on car). We concluded our trip at the zoo and were ecstatic that you and the family were there.
My wife and I spotted you in the food court of the zoo chatting and carrying-on with some of your co-workers. You were riding that red dirt bike we heard about, and Bindi was riding in front (see photo of your back). Before I could muster up the words to introduce myself you were on your way around the park. I was mad at myself for not being more bold – to introduce myself to the man I idolize, but I didn’t want to bother you either.
It’s okay though – you gave us the show we had only dreamed of: a live demonstration in the Crocoseum with Terri and Wes at your side. I had no idea you guys were so much fun in person too! It was a great show and we had a photo opportunity with Terri afterward. She was nice enough to autograph photos for us and our neighbor children across the street.
Thank you for everything Steve: for further inspiring me to love wildlife, to allay my fear of snakes and do similar things for people around the world. Nature thanks you and will continue to thrive from your contributions to the world.
We love you all: Steve, Terri, Bindi, and Bob. Bless you all in knowing that Steve’s legacy is firmly embraced in Australia and around the world.
Thank you Steve.
Love, Matt, Angela, & baby Isaac (whom we are building collection of memorabilia for)
