Our grateful story is that we adopted a handsome boy from Guatemala at the age of 13 months in 1998. Although curious, he was extremely timid -- until he saw Steve Irwin. After that, we were all blissfully immersed in the exposition of nature and enthusiam of Steve's shows. The once shy little boy was soon reenacting whole episodes, complete with Aussie lingo. To any small injury outdoors, he would say, "That's gonna take a little work." Every stuffed animal in the house was at some point jumped on, secured with top-jaw ropes, and carefully rolled in pillowcases for relocation (we finally bought a large plastic croc with flexible jaws). By now, our boy is 9, he is a wealth of knowledge and exuberance about wildlife, and everyone who knows him sees a little Steve Irwin in him, and knows more about nature from what he tells them. We thank the Irwin family for their wonderful gift to ours. We all miss you, Steve, terribly. The planet is much the better for what you've done and started. We'll do our best.
