In all of the episodes I have seen, Curtis has been cooking on a gas range. In one episode he cooked on an outdoor gas fed BBQ grill. I'm sure he can cook on an electric stove/oven combination but I wonder why everyone has gas.

Coyote7 - from what I know about apartments vs homes....gas stoves are a better selling point than electric. Most apartments have electric, most homes have gas. Even when a home has electric, and they remodel, they will replace with gas stove. My mother says cooking on an electric stove is more even, but I think gas gets hotter and better outcome of food.

I think Curtis has lucked out with all the participants having gas. Any chef will tell you their preference is gas. It's impossible to control the heat as quickly on an electric range verses a gas. My MIL loves her electric top, she is use to it and it makes clean up a breeze, however, I can not live without a gas one.
