1) you really don't know the idenity of the persons buried on those boxes. 2) you have no idea of how many people came in contact with those boxes before, during, and after burial to really use DNA here. 3) if that tomb belongs to the Jesus Family there would have been pages of documentation through the ages showing that it existed there.
I agree with you on number one and two, but on number three that is questionable. Mainly because have you actually seen the original pages or copies of the original pages from with the bible was written. Most of the things in the bible can not be proved, therefore we can really say there would be documented proof.
The group claiming this is the historical Jesus tomb are not staking this claim merely on the name of Jesus being placed on an ossurary, or even "Jesus, son of Joseph"; instead they are staking their claim partly on all the names present and relationships between these people with the DNA evidence analyzed to date.
Imagine a stadium in Jerusalem 33 C.E. filled with people. Ask everyone to stand up. Ask for everyone name Jesus to remain standing, about 3% will remain standing. Now ask everyone to remain standing whose name is Jesus with a father named Joseph and a mother named Mary, the number falls drastically. Now ask every Jesus still standing if they had a personal relationship with Mary Merrllame (sp?). The odds of more than the historical Jesus with a father named Joeseph, mother named Mary, and an associate named Marry Merliame (sp?) are infinitestimally small. Based on name popularity of the time, the odds this is not the historical Jesus, given this evidence, is 1 in 599 assuming all other variables are legimtate.
However, this analysis also suggests forgery regarding the ossuraries so there is much more to learn prior to establishing an informed opinion. But the notion that Cameron et. al. are relying merely on an ossuary with the name "Jesus". That is a misreprentation of their claims.
Cameron et al have less cause to celebrate than have the Shroud of Turin proponents. The Shroud has a documented history regardless of how fragmented - it has a history. The ossuaries herein have no other claim to fame than some labels inscribed in Greek - not a language common to Jewish burial practices. They have seized on the only thing they can seize upon with such specious fundation for their arguments - the boxes were "labeled" with "names" therefore, they MUST be the names of the family of Jesus because statistically...yadda yadda yadda. God is not a statistical Being - take a gander a the statistics of even one miracle, much less the many performed by the REAL Jesus Christ of Biblical repute. He beat the odds one right after the other with each and every one. And what were the odds that His broken body, which was resurrected - and this risen body appeared to His disciples on the road to Emmaus, in the upper room, to doubting Thomas who placed his hands in His wounds...what are the chances that THIS body is none other than the one once contained in this little ossuary placed in some obscure tomb along with "family members?" I'd say that Jesus Himself is not one to accomodate statistics - rather he beats the odds every time. BTW He was out preaching the Good News of salvation, not in some stadium watching martyrs being thrown to lions for believing in Him. This so-called "theory" holds no water for it isn't founded on anything but pure speculation. And speculation is what gnostics do best. Leave them to thinking about their "finds" and leave the statistics to God and Jesus. I'd be willing to bet they make statistical mincemeat of the latest skeptics.
The absolute truth is in the Word of God. Which clearly states that Jesus was crucified, died and was buried and on the third day rose again. We serve a living GOD not a person. That is it. You are either a believer of the word or not a believer and I pray that each one of these so call archeologist/producers whose claim to fame is deceiving the public with their stunts truly see and comprehend what they are doing. I pray that they will come to the realization that Jesus is Lord and his Word is the absolute truth.
John 4:48
"Unless you people see miraculos signs and wonders" Jesus told him, "you will never believe."
Proverbs 10: 10-12
Thefear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom and knowledge of the Holy One is understanding. For through me your day will be many and years will be added to your life . If you are wise, your wisdom will reward you; if you are a mocker, you alone will suffer.

I don't believe your evicence, priase him 2, would hold up in a court of law. I would ask the professors, however, how many ossuaries with the name Jesus have been recovered in israel as far as scholars know? I have heards that there are at least two, and maybe more. Can you enlighten me?
The whole calculations of the odds that is being presented in the show are completely inappropriate. I'll use 'mikeheath's example (no disrespect intended)
First of all, there is no evidence that the person in the ossuary marked "Mary" is the mother of the person in the "Jesus" ossuary. That's an assumption.
Second, it's not like asking a stadium full of people who has a father named Joseph and mother named Mary and an unrelated acquaintance named Mary Merrllame (sp?). It's like picking a random person and tracing his or her geneology back for centuries and asking if they had these names anywhere in their geneology. Quite a different way of calculating the odds.
Re the DNA evidence. Okay - science methodology 101 here... You CANNOT prove a negative! The inability to detect a maternal relationship is NOT the same as there actually being no relationship. They were working with tiny fragments of DNA that is centuries old and handled by who knows how many people. Frankly, I would have been shocked if they DID find a relationship with the odds stacked against them in a practical sense.
This so-called science of this show is appalling...
there is a big assumption that the translation of the bible is accurate. like the word for young girl being translated as virgin and thou shalt not murder being changed to kill. the original translation was made by someone who had to guess at words meanings. there are bound to be errors in translation. when they are discovered they are brushed aside by the vatican and the lemings fall inline to belive.
i personally never thought Jesus physical body rose to heaven. all that is up there is air, how would it not fall down? this is what i believe. Jesus tomb was found empty because his body was moved. what the disciples saw when he came to them was his spirit.
any one with real faith won't be waivered by results. people that believe a body could actually float to the heavens will have a problem with it.
