A kat is taken off the list when "dead" or presumed dead. Are they also taken off if they are just considered "last seen"?

The following kats are no longer listed. I was hoping to get info on their status.

Boba
Hugo
Mary-Pat
Groke
Alina
Maja
Aragorn

Lastly, does anyone have any Monthly Reports before April 2007 that I can acquire?

Hi everyone! Yes, a meerkat's or mob's name is removed from the KMP database when Last Seen. FYI: If a LSEEN kat later reappears, a KMP volunteer must scan its microchip to make a positive ID before it can be restored to the database.

Join the club in wishing for LH reports before April 2007. We missed some key events in the preceding few months alone: the demise of the Starskys, Flower's death and the turmoil that followed including the mixed litter when 4(!) Whiskers females gave birth in late Jan 2007. Unfortunately, we're out of luck on getting earlier reports. On the FKMP LH page:
http://friends.kalahari-meerkats.com/index.php?id=lh-report

it says, "Please note that no earlier reports are available, since the project researchers only started compiling them from the Life History file in April 2007." Frown Oh well, I'm thrilled to get the reports we do have.

According to the Balrog family history, Boba Vivian Balrog was discovered dead from a predator on March 15, 2007. Only his head and radio collar remained Frown Frown

Who was Bobo? That is a sad and tragic way to find a meerkat.

See this link for some info on Boba, but I do not know his present status.

Wow! Seeing the "Group History" on that link is really shocking. I know the average lifespan of a male meerkat, but it is shocking how many of the dominant males of present and former groups never made it to their full age due to predation and disease.

In case everyone doesn't know, you can read all about the Balrog's for free at Friends of the Kalahari Meerkats. In addition to the complete history of the group, you can download a name list with all the Balrog's that has comments from the researchers. The family history is where they mention the date and circumstances of Boba's death Frown.

here is what I know...

Boba (he has a picture in the kmp photo gallery) was Vivian born and immigrated into the Balrog group, where he was predated like Squirrelygirly said...

Hugo (VGGM025), Mary-Pat (VGGF016), The Groke (VMMM011), Alina (VLF078), Maja (VYF127), and Aragorn (VYM073) all have pictures in the kmp photo gallery with their codes and names under them..So Hugo, Mary-pat, and the Groke were all born in the Gattaca (indicated by the GG in their code), Alina in the Lazuli (indicated by the L), Maya and Aragorn in the Young Ones (indicated by the Y)...It mentioned Aragorn on the fkmp group description page as being the dominant male of the Commandos and recently dying (he was marked as Last seen on April's Life History report)...Since the others are not mentioned on the LHs they must have disappeared or died before April 2007...

Hope this helps

This link is for current groups, but in the first paragraph there is a *click here* and there is a new group tree.

Yo ratties

Sorry but The Groke was a Moomins male, not a Gattaca kat.

The average time a male spends as a dominant is about 18 months. It's a tough job scent marking the desert.
