PLEASE bring back Meerkat Manor. My students and I were faithful watchers. It is a great forum for animal studies as well as just plain satisfying to watch. Put me down for SUPPORT!

We, the members of a dedicated meerkat loving group created a petition that was posted on Care2, an international petition site that reaches many people. The petition is addressed at network executives, and its purpose is to generate as many signatures by viewers, and lovers of Meerkat Manor, and meerkats in general in order to convince them to start filming the program again. Thank you for your help. Please inform friends, and family about the petition, and the link to it. This is a link to the petition site:

I've only recently been watching meerkat manor. only the re-runs that have been coming on at 3 and 3:30. i've gotten as far as the end of season 3 when flower died, and now its not scheduled to come on anymore. So, I really dont know if another season is coming or not. but i would really like to see more. I love this show. I've had to start getting ready for work earlier just so I can watch it. i really, really hope they bring it back or keep it, whatever the cuurent status is right now.

There is season 4. It aired last summer, and there was only one rerun- last winter. We hope that we can convince the executives to commission the filming of MM, because it stopped last year. That's why we started the petition.

We have 1172 signatures. Thank you.

Personal information does not appear on the petition, only name, state in the US, or country. The name doesn't have to be displayed either, if one wishes. Care2 is a very well known, safe, international petition site.

I just returned last weekend from Florida and turned on my TV at 3:00 o'clock yesterday only to find that MM repeats have been replaced by another program - no warning, no showing S-4, no nothing. I can't get over it, I'm so sad.

BTW, can one sign the Petition more than once?

We had our first news story (that we know of) in the Orlando Sentinel (Florida) which is one of the bigger national newspapers in the US. It was an article in their e-edition (at least) about MM, and our petition. KeschaKeiko (Darci), one of the members of our group send an e-mail.

It doesn't make sense...In the UK the BBC will begin reruns AGAIN this coming Monday Oct 11. It is AP USA standing behind their decision not to run Meerkat Manor...at all? What a shame.

Found the link! Awesome!

What am I reading...TRUTH or FICTION?

Oct 4, 2009 ... September Mailbag: Is Dave Haywood Going Solo? ... Ken No, but he will be featured on the upcoming season of Meerkat Manor. ...

Dave’s involvement with Meerkat manor will be two fold. First he will be composing a new theme song with 60’s pop music sensibilities, and second they will try to place him as the new “alpha male” of the meerkat community. Unfortunately in trying to make the underground den big enough to accommodate Dave an unexpected cave-in killed most of the colony…

My mind is whirling.....HUH!!!

I'm sorry. I was supposed to say "sent" instead of "send" in an earlier post.

We sent a million of e-mails anywhere imaginable. We hope that we will get more exposure.

We have another news story. The Ft. Lauderdale SunSentinel posted my e-mail about the petition. There is a problem with the link, but I added a reply with the link (until the other is fixed). The link to the Sun Sentinal is:

At first, I wasn't sure about a 5th season..

The 4th seemed too different, but that doesn't mean Season 5 will be the same! Animal Planet can always make improvements.

Count me in! ;D

A few days ago I sent an e-mail about Meerkat Manor, and the petition to The Independent, one of the big, serious newspapers in the U.K. They had a huge article today (Kool for kats) about the popularity of meerkats, mentioning Meerkat Manor as well. I posted a comment there. Please do the same. The link is:

The story was in the printed, and electronic versions. The New York Times would be the equivalent of a publication in this country.

Is this something we should keep our eyes on?...our hopes???? After all Mike Wild, formerly of OSF was one of the creators of Meerkat Manor. He is now with Nat Geo....

Now all we need now is the money, about 1.5 M I am told, and "a for sure deal"

Well we can dream...

From various media sources...

"Fox confirms Nat Geo spin-off.

LA-based Fox Reality Channel will be replaced by a Washington DC-based spin-off of the National Geographic Channel.

Fox Cable Networks said this week that Fox Reality would be wound down by March 31, and C21 reported yesterday that its replacement would be an East Coast channel.

The new network was thought to be a branded entertainment channel, but Fox Cable Networks and National Geographic Channel have confirmed that the advertiser-friendly replacement service will focus on natural history and wildlife.

New service Nat Geo Wild, a joint venture between Fox Cable Networks and National Geographic Ventures, will concentrate on programmes about animals in the wild.

It is an extension of a network that has already found success internationally, with outlets in about 50 countries, including England, France and Germany.

Nat Geo Wild is the fastest growing channel of the National Geographic portfolio networks, with launches in France, Germany, Australia and Latin America in the past year.

National Geographic is dedicated to inspiring people to care about the planet by presenting the most compelling and visually dynamic science, exploration and history across all our media platforms,” said Fahey. “Wildlife programming is core to our brand and with the urgent conservation challenges facing wildlife, this is the right time for us to focus on what is a favorite genre for many.”

Nat Geo Wild will dedicate its platform solely to wildlife programming with a mix of series and blue chip specials. Nat Geo Wild’s schedule is still being finalized, but premiere programs such as

“Africa’s Lost Eden” – captures the largest relocation effort ever attempted of hundreds of zebra, wildebeest, impala, buffalo and
hippos."

This is interesting.

Only 1.5 million is needed to produce Meerkat Manor? The show was on cable (Animal Planet), but it aired in primetime, on a Friday. Even with reduced viewership, they would be enough sponsors (commercials), not to mention merchadise sales for the show to be profitable.

Interesting news about Nat Geo Wild. My satellite provider does offer Fox Reality, though at a higher tier than I currently subscribe to. But if NGW started airing new Meerkat Manor episodes, I'd upgrade in a heartbeat!

As someome proposed to me this weekend...NO not THAT kind!!! LOL!!!

If we had 9000 people each donating $160 we could bring back Meerkat Manor, but don't forget there is also the question of Distribution rights. AP International commissioned 5 Seasons...with the option for the fifth not being fulfilled, they need some money also.

If the 1.5 million includes those monies we would have a bargin. I know it can't cost THAT much to produce, not if we go back to the original processes of Seasons 1 & 2; seasons I consider the "Gold Standard" for Meerkat Manor.

The actors work for free, they have no agents. The Kalahari in all its splendor with supporting cast is in place The money goes for camera work, music, editing...the sorta stuff I know nothing about, but if searched the costs could be found.

Another of ccatz' elusive dreams...

so we wait...

Well last season as you all know everyone complained about (everything) many of us here and there were just happy to see the meerkats, so what if we begged the reasearchers and the friends to make a movie? Big Grin

Bring back Meerkat Manor, even if Animal Planet has to buy or take over the production of the show.

If Animal Planet doesn't bring Meerkat Manor back, they might as well shut down the channel. Most of the other shows are worthless.
