Just had a rather frustrating experience. I had googled "meerkat forums" to see what else was out there and I registered at TWoP Forums since they have a very large MM Forum. When I posted a nice post telling them about the East Coast Meerkat Society and how they might want to check out the ECMS website to see how they could help zoo meerkats (making SURE that I put in the post that I wasn't soliciting donations and that the ECMS doesn't accept donations) the site moderator zapped my post and sent me a nasty little "warning" that I was "site-pimping" (I've never heard that phrase before - that's a very unpleasant term). Considering that all I was doing was trying to get the word out about helping zoo meerkats and where to go to see info about that help, I wasn't very happy about the response. It seems that on their site all they want you to do is discuss meerkats.....not actually help them. Not nice.

Wow. Thats rather harsh. Site-pimping? Thats a new one. Of coarse all this pretty new to me anyway. Better just stay where the nice people are!

I agree....we do have some good people on this forum. Of course, one of my purposes was to get some new people interested in helping the zoo kats, so if I can't post anything directly on the other forum I'm just going to start sending some of them private e-mails (the forum has a provision for sending private e-mails) and just letting them know about the ECMS and the problems of zoo meerkats. Of course, that may get me banned from that site, but that's life. I just don't see what their problem is.

Site pimping is when you go to another site and you usually have your URL, or websites included as your tag line or signature. Considering the fact that you were merely thinking they would want to help Meerkats since they had a Meerkat website I don't see anything you did wrong. It doesn't sound like a nice site anyway.

So, Lindseyoconnor...shame, shame on you for interfering with all of their "OTHER PIMPS". Huge guffaw! You gotta be kidding me. Site pimping? Let's see now, if I look that up in the dictionary, whose picture would pop up? I can only imagine. Big guy, orange corduroy suit, leather hat with a feather in it comes to mind.
Oh well, you can't let other people (espeically in cyberspace) get your goat! What's that, you say? You don't have a goat? Oh well, you know what I mean, right?!
Gotta laugh at them and move on....or email them a picture of a real pimp and tell them they'll be sleeping with the fishes soon!

Lisndey, I'm sad to read about the hurdles you've been facing lately in the name of helping meerkats. I appreciate your activism. I'm really happy you promote to help the Birmingham Zoo's kats and the ECMS. I wish we could fund raise at this site, but AP is already being very cool to let us talk about general meerkat subjects that aren't always MM-related, so I respect AP's wishes.
As for the other meerkat forum sites, yes, there are a few, but from what I've seen, not many people really post there and they're not really recognized by meerkat fans as a place to dwell, so I wouldn't worry about them too much.

Yes, I'm really grateful to AP also for allowing us the latitude they have. That's why, when I wanted to specifically discuss fundraising, I created a thread on the mastermeerkat forum and posted the link to that thread here on AP so I wouldn't violate AP's policies. Essentially that's all I did on the other forum, just give a brief description of the ECMS and offer the link. Oh well....guess you're right...best to forget about it. Otherwise I'll just get madder and madder and have a stroke and leave my five cats motherless (why I let things get to me like this I'll never know....it's just that animal welfare topics tend to push my buttons).

Lindsey, don't have a stroke, just keep in mind some people are happy just to talk about something than to really be about it.

I post over at TWOP and I did see your post, lindseyoconnor. TWOP has very strict rules about what you can and cannot post and how you can and cannot post. Here's their rules page. http://forums.televisionwithoutpity.com/index.php?showtopic=3150213The reason they get snippy is that you're supposed to read the rules page before you start posting. Although I'm guessing most people don't.

Mammameerkat, I do like the way you think! When I hear the word pimp, I get the same description you do. Sleeping with the fishes,...are you sure your not related to my family? lo rotf Site-pimping is a new word for me. You keep up the good work lindseyoconnor!

Hey folks...I am just rotflmao off in response to one of TwoP's rules:
DON'T start threads that amount to simple lists; only reasoned/meaty lists are allowed
What exactly is a "meaty" list? Is that with or without pepperoni? And what do vegans have to say about this?
And here's another one that gets my goat...
DON'T post in a thread until you've read at least the last fifteen pages or days of content.
15 DAYS? Are you kidding me? 15 days worth of Meerkat conspiracy theories, infighting, name-calling, intervention vs. non-intervention wars. Arguments about how cute Sean Astin is or isn't...speculation about who the REAL father is of Axl, Liz, Rose, Slash, etc. etc.
Whether or not the snake was real or fake. Whether there was even a snake at all or did we just imagine it?
Did Flower even really exist? Do Meerkats exist? Is this all just a reality show done by CGI grapics on a computer in Silicon Valley and we've all been fooled?
Sheesh...if I sat here and read through 15 days of posts, my eyes would have rolled back into my head and I'd be dead on the ground from a stroke!

Pronker, Cheryl, Ccatz, and ZTM; Who among us told Mama about our closely guarded secret, "Project:Sillicon-Valley-Meerkat"? Our 13 years of... ahem... :cough: "KMP Research" :cough: has now been compromised. The Big Boss isn't going to be happy about this.

I used to post over there and the so-called moderators were getting on you about one thing or another. You weren't supposed to do this or do that. I still don't know what wrong in their book of no-nos I committed but I got suspended for a couple of days and after that it was like don't bother to reinstate me, I don't want to post here since you've taken all the fun out of it. If you have to walk on egg shells to post on that site, they can frankly stick their site where the sun don't shine.
