Astin was only good because he had experince before he even had to go on any shows like that while channing doesn't yet and she will get it and then she will be as good as astin or even better.
While I liked Sean, We have to give Ms Channing a break. She was hired to do this. She is going for a visit to Pams, at the Fellow Earthlings Center, to have some one on one time with her meerkats. So she is tring to learn more about the meers. Its just not her fault, she was hired to a job, at least shes making an effort to find out more about the kats.
According to posts from Christopher9691 and WCM, the fans did not look like weirdos. They were there, and they found it very enjoyable. Check out the thread, by Christopher9691.
Confused on your comment....They made the show, the meerkats and viewers look like weirdos....who are you talking about that made the show? Just wondering...It pretty much was Meerkat related and everyone enjoyed it. Just wondering why the negative comments...I was there in the audience and it was great! To have Meerkats talked about is good enough for me....
Last time I looked, the show is about comedy and talk. Embarassing, only your opinion. Ms. Channing is given a script to read in a sound room to narrate the show. She is trying to learn about the animals. She told Craig she said she was visiting American Meerkats in Palm Springs. Craig came back with the line about meerkats being in retirement and golfing. Funny and it gets people thinking there must be meerkats in PS. Actually Pam's FE and the living Desert. Bill Engvall said he watches the show and enjoys it. Gee more meerkat PR. Let's try to not get too serious, Weidos? Your definition? When we on this site put on labels , we diminish the chance to educate the public and insult the members who took the opportunity to advance the cause. Peace ZM
My take is that any publicity about our kats is good publicity. Getting the word out about these amazing animals is great.
I love Craig F. and the fact he ran with the meerkat theme during the show was wonderful. We got much more than the standard 15 minutes of fame, we became virtually the entire show.
Yes I did wince when SC mentioned she only watched after she was hired but she does seem to be trying to catch up. I give her credit for knowing the kats were from the mongoose family. At least she didn't say it was a mix between a cat and a rat. And by going to see Pam at FE you know SC is going to get the full course on meerkats.
Loved that Bill Engvall who probably wanted to talk about his show spent half of his alloted time talking kats....stupendous!
To me the highlight was the Kat crew in the audience....amazing! By being there you kept the pressure on Craig that he had to notice you and keep his focus on "meerkats". Yes he poked fun but this is a comedy show not Mutual of Omaha. ANd he wasn't mean or nasty in his comments.
So I say good job Cali Kat crew! You all get 2 paws up!!! Just wish I could have been there.
Yes, I think it was a good piece. Craig is supposed to be funny, so he was. Stockard at least said that they have a lot of stress in their lives and a lot that they do when Craig thought they didn't do much.
You guys in the audience do get 2 paws up, it was a great segment and got some information out there. Even though she called them American meerkats.
I don't usually watch Craig Furgeson, so I can't really comment on the format of the show. I don't think Stockard Channing did a bad job. I do wish she had researched the meerkats a little more before going on the show but she is going to learn more about them. I just wish she wouldn't refer to herself as the "voice of God" of the Kalahari.(People magazine) I think she used the word 'Yaweh" of Craig Furgeson. (Sorry about the spelling.)
I didn't see the show but I saw a clip on youtube, unfortunately I had no speakers on my computer so I couldn't hear what she was saying, but I watched to see the audience and cracked up at the Meerkat face masks! That was cute!
My only question is, if Stockard doesn't know much about meerkats, why? The whole season has been completed and I'm sure she is done with her narration?? All that time and she doesn't know anything about them?
Good point. 13 episodes and she should know more than she spoke about on the show. Narration is what they hired her for and narration is exactly what she did.
Exactly! They hired her for narration not knowledge. I get the impression, now I'm not sure so don't quote me on this, but that SC was hired and dropped into the mix quick. She boned up by watching a few episodes and went in cold to do the reading. Which possibly was done in a few short days. Probably only after she was finished did she find out that just reading would not be enough. Mick and crew probably informed her of the dedication of MM fans and that she would be hit with questions from fans and appearances. And you know meerkats bring out questions in people. What are they? Why do they dig all the time? What's with the guy in the tree?
So while I wish she was more knowledgible I won't fault her for trying to learn now. At least she appears to be making an attempt. Stockard has to know she wouldn't be on Craig's show without MM. She seems to have not other irons in the fire at this time. They brought her on the show as she has a project to promote. So I'm hoping she becomes meerkaterized and possesed by the fuzzies as most of us are.
I am no expert on the whole narration gig but I saw the Nightline segment and S.C. was standing there with a script and saying the lines. You read it and then I would guess that they take whatever is said and then apply it to the appropriate time it is needed. Hopefully it will get better. If Sean had left on his own accord, who do you think they would have gotten to do this and who would you think would do a better job than SC? I am sure that there are many people who would want to do it, but picking the right person takes time and thought. I don't know....I guess one of us could try...Not me, but someone...Would that have been cool or what? Queenflower....narrator of Meerkat Manor...or ccatz...or Melba or any one of us....for maybe 1 episode. Then we can actually see how difficult it would be....
