I'm here to say one thing: Please, stop blaming RD and Maybelline for the group split.
Some people have said things like "This wouldn't have happened if Flower was still leader!!" That's wrong. Flower could not have prevented the group from splitting. The Whiskers were at HUGE numbers, and that was during a drought. It was inevitable that the group would split; if they didn't, most, if not all, of the group would starve to death. Do you think Flower would let that happen? Of course not, no good leader would.
Second, some people said they want the two groups to reunite. As previously stated, they would inevitably starve to death. You wouldn't want that, would you?!
I totally understand why people would want the groups to reunite, but do they know what the consequences would be?!
You are absolutely right on your facts when Whiskers was at 50+ kats.
But now much has changed...so who knows, but once a female is dominant, she doesn't want to give it up. Inevitably one of the two would die in fierce dominancy battles or be evicted.
Remember Tosca...?
We will just have to wait and watch what the meerkats decide to do. Ella is Whiskers new dominant. It will be under her direction.
Anytime a group like the Whiskers gets as large as the Whiskers, group splits are inevitable. While the show may portray this as 2 sisters fighting, it wasn't. And actually Maybelline did herself a favor. If she had stayed, Rocket Dog at some point would have evicted her, and she would have been all alone.
Hi everyone! I agree completely. At that point, the Whiskers were too large for the food available. Now both groups are much smaller but I think it's way too late to merge again without bloodshed, and one of the DFs would certainly be evicted -- a usually tragic fate. I'm rooting for both groups to succeed! The two DFs just need to get busy having lots of healthy pups to grow their groups fast.
Even though there are now the Whiskers and the Aztecs, they are all Whiskers by birth. Now there are two groups with Whiskers blood and even though the groups have different names and probably will not reunite, it doesn't mean they are not Whiskers. Splitting is normal and necessary. In addition to starvation, there are health issues with overcrowded burrows. I look forward to watching both groups.
You're right, NW67675, both groups are truly Whiskers. Whiskers blood is spreading throughout the Manor in other groups too. In fact, if we go back a few generations we can see how interrelated all of the groups are. They are truly FAMILY! I love them all and wish all of them success. May there be good times ahead, with plentiful food and burrows bursting with healthy pups. Cheers!
