I saw it yesterday. The squirrel was on the mound (!), close to a sentry meerkat. They ignored each other. I didn't watch after this, because I can do it only for a few minutes here, and there. The meerkats were excavating a "hole" by the logs, as well.

The wild kats do have the ground squirrels to entertain them doing flower dances, so maybe the the Miami kats want some squirrel entertainment too!!

Maybe one day we will see a kat/bird war on the MM Cam, I think the kats would win in a fight, but the birds would be able to flight better.

Good Mornin ILM and Ccatz....I am waiting, too
for the little darlins to pop "up" out of a hole.
I am not quite sure if there are 4 or 6 "kats".
They are faster than a speeding bullet,
etc. Does the sun come up in Miami between 0600
and 0630 EDT? About two more hours to go and I
think three for Cheyenne. Altough I prefer
Miami myself. Waitin, waitin.......
Have a great day, see ya in Miami! Wink

Good morning.
They are 6 kats. They are brothers, and sisters from two different litters. They have the same father. They can be seen all together at feeding times. Sunrise is at 6.31 EDT in South Florida.

I am always up this time of morning to go to work; just I couldn't sleep for one reason or another, so up much earlier & came online.

Almost crowed, but there was absolutely no sign of the sun...and the fuzzies were still asleep, bless them!

cCatz, do you have to register to view the ZooCam? I could only pull up a blank screen, so am wondering about registering first.

They are no lights in the meerkat enclosure. There is a blank screen because it's nighttime. The meerkats can be seen this time of the year from around 6.30am EDT to 8.30pm EDT. One doesn't have to register to view the ZooCam.

Good Mornin' Devoted "Kat" Lovers:
Thank you, again, zettak, for the information
concerning the number of "kats" being watched
by the Miami Katcam.
Zettak, you are a walking encyclopedia (volume
"M") when it comes to meerkats. In fact, I told
my DM if I was to bet on who would answer my question first, it would be zettak. Should have
placed that bet!! Big Grin Big Grin Big Grin
Hope y'all have a great and safe 4th. See you
tonight on the dunes!

Kats are eating, one is watching out for danger, there is some shiney stuff around - maybe it's to keep the birds out and away from the kats food.

I thought that the Colorado Springs kats looked so much bigger then the wild kats or Miami kats, but now some of Miami kats are starting to look bigger - wonder if some are preggers or maybe they have eaten too many bugs.

The kats are sisters, and brothers. They have the same father, but they belong to different litters. They are about 11 years old. The males are neutered. I think they just gained weight. Their names are Scarneck, Scooter, Sean, Alexis, Adam, and Diana.
It rained (again). It's the rainy season in Florida. There is very little sun for many weeks. I know because I live in Southeastern Florida.

Zettak. just checked again, 5:45p.m.EDT, is it
dark because of weather or is the camera off?
Surely the sun has not set at this hour. Guess
I will have to go to Colorado. Good thing I do not have to buy gas!! tee hee Big Grin

It's cloudy, but not dark. It doesn't get dark before 8.30pm EDT. Maybe refreshing the page could help.
They are puddles of water, but it's a lot better than before. I see a couple of kats out (including the sentry).

Zettak, I guess I should practice what I preach,
patience. Although, I wasn't too sure how bad the weather was particularly after I had re-
freshed the picture several times (not be much
as refresh as closed the website and returned).
At least I now know I have until at least until
8:15pm EDT. Big Grin

It's hot, sunny (it was today, well mostly, for a change), and humid. The kats were in the shade, I bet.

Mornin' finally, I saw two liitle darlin's this morning.
I had been watching them for a while when one of the
keepers came in with his broom and long-handled dustpan
to clean up a bit. The guys kept and eye on him, then he returned with a spade and started turning some of the soil over to the right of the four stumps.
Only the two "kats" were visibily watching him.
Very interesting........
Zettak, looks like there might have been a light shower; isn't there a potential weather
maker just off the coastline that could potent-
ially effect FLA.?
Have a great week-end, Floridians!

It's hurricane season from May to November. There is always some tropical depression, or another.
Have a great weekend all of you.

Zettak, very familiar with Hurricane Season (May thru November). I am straight across the Gulf from you. We are 14 years overdue for a major storm. The last thing we had that did any damage was Tropical Storm Allison that came in and just sat there; rained and more rain, then turned and went back to the Gulf (1993). Rita just missed us, thank God. This concerns me because some become too complacent. The DM can be a 12th hour person but NOT me and I like things ready when the radar shows a high probably something is headed this way 5-7 days out. I am originally from earthquake country. The only warning you get is from your animals.

Zettak, is there any sand in the exhibit with
the little "kats"? I am familiar with that type
of dry, hard soil and it makes me feel sorta
sad for them. Frown
BTW, are you keeping an eye on "Dolly" since these storms are so unpredicatable. We are definitely are going to get wet, just how wet
remains to be seen. Our rainfall is in minus
column at the point.

We had four destructive hurricanes in 2004, and nothing serious after that. It seems that Dolly is coming a little bit toward you (you are in Texas, aren't you?), but it is really going toward Mexico. I'm originally from earthquake country too.
I don't see any sand in the meerkat enclosure. I'm afraid it's just soil.

Some of the kats are play fighting now - which is suppose to be good for animals - so keep it up little kats as long as you don't play too hard.

Hi, Zettak, I just peeked in on our little furries
in Miami; one was standing sentry and two
were at the base of the termite mound. It seems a shame
that some area of the
enclosure does not have some sand, doesn't
it? Frown
Yes, I am just North of Nasa, Ellington Field
(in Clear Lake). As of 5 p.m. EDT, they have
Dolly going in closer to Brownsville with Trop-
ical Storm wind and rain possibly as far north
as the south end of Galveston. She is a Cat One
now; they are so unpredictable! Have you ever
experienced an earthquake? See ya on the flip side.

Mornin' All: When I arrived at the exhibit this morning, the sunshine was very limited in spots.
One spot at the right of the front of the ter-
mite mound was bright from the light. Three
little "kats were standing in a straight line with a fourth "kat" off to the side closest to
the grasses. It looked as if they had formed a chorus line and were getting instructions. A
fifth "kat" was sitting on top of a stump in the lower right-hand corner; the sixth "kat" was
but a shadow adjacent to the stump. Great viewing this morning.

Check in to see how the kats are doing, the Miami kats are napping, some are curled up together, it looks like the CS kats are watching out for something, some are standing on the tree stumps guarding the yard.
