Everyone is up and busy. One sentry standing
duty atop the termite mound was temporarily
replaced by another "kat" (potty break?). An
other "kat" keeping their eye on things while
standing atop the stumps. Three little
ones scurrying around the mound and grasses. Patchy sun mostly against the wall.
I am off to Germany now. Have a good day, y'all.

Had some busy little "kats" this afternoon
(6 p.m. EDT). Zettak, do you or any one else know what
they are getting out of the soil beyond the
occasional ant or two?

Other insects. According to the meerkat keeper, Adam, when a small snake enters the enclosure, the meerkats mob it, kill it, and eat it.

Thanks for the data, Zettak. I can always count
on you!
My visit a few minutes ago showed a sentry atop
the termite mound, one "kat" peering through
the hole in the mound; two in the tall grasses
and at least one on the ground. It appeared to be a little overcast today, was it?
Glad to hear a dessert slithers in now and then!
Big Grin
P.S. So far, this Hurricane Season seems a bit
docile, what do you think?

So sad. No meerkats today - they all went to see the doctor.

They're digging around right now, and a couple of minutes ago one of them was a sentry. He was on watch, then boom, down he goes like a furry bullet! It looked like a flying meerkat ^^

They are very fast.

The hurricane season was not bad so far, but the water in the Atlantic is very warm in August, and September.

I have not seen Miami kats for a couple days - guess they are being kept out of harm from the storm - my thoughts are for everyone living there and hope they will be o.k.

Adam said yesterday that they would be keeping the meerkats inside until after Fay has passed. Also, one of the females had to have surgery to remove a mass and is recovering well. Still waiting for Adam to post the pathology report. Please let it good news for the little girl!!

Although the eye of the storm hit the southwestern part of Florida (the storm is going toward the northeastern part now) we, at the southeastern part (I live about 80 to 90 minutes north of Miami, in Palm Beach Gardens), had torrential rain, wind, and tornadoes. It was a bad night, and day. It still is.

I cannot get it either. It seems frozen. The one meerkat has been sitting on the stump for a day or two. Does anyone have any news? I miss them. =^..^=

Adam did say that they think the camera might have been hit by lighting and a part is on order. No update on the path report on the female who was operated on.

Thanks ccatz. This is cool. I didn't get to see the Miami kats but I see the other ones. The other camera takes a picture every minute so it doesn't seem like it is live. It's still cool! You all are the reason I keep coming back.

It is 1:13p.m. and the sun is still shining and everyone is on the move. Looks like a real nice day there. I used to live in Fla. for part of the year and sure miss it.
Does anyone know if there is some kind of net above the enclosure to keep birds of prey from swooping in? I have been wondering about that for some time. =^..^=
