I am now content. I have seen a meerkat in person. We are visiting Ft. Lauderdale and made a trip down to the Miami Metro Zoo last Wednesday. They were SO cute! But, I must admit, the enclosure they are in is much smaller than I thought it was. Although I was thrilled to see them, I felt bad that they didn't have more room to move about.

I received this email from the Miami Zoo today....
Good morning Meerkat fans:
We are still waiting to hear from NBC6, if they do not pick up our web cam we are going to start looking for another host to carry the cam.
Ron Magill is working on this and will let us know if there are any prospects.
If you have any information on a potential donor for web cam services, please let us know. We are all looking forward to seeing the kats again.
Thank you,
Carla Baker

It rained for 14 days, it stopped for a couple, and then they were terrible storms again the last two days in southeastern Florida.

Ah, this webcam is more like it. Lots of activity even late in the day. Think I found my reason to upgrade to a larger external monitor, a ten inch screen doesn't do the little kats justice.

From ~MIAMI~ THis is us they are talking about...& others!!!!!!! Florida Keys tourism council has started a 24-hour webcam devoted to turtle nests. The broadcast is supposed to catch baby turtles hatching and frolicking in the sand before making their way out to sea. Get your popcorn ready. Whether the idea will hit or miss is unclear. After all, people still tune in to the wildly popular Meerkat cam at Metrozoo (trust us, we have the numbers). The tourism council is banking on the untapped hyper-enthusiastic turtle-nest-watching crowd (all eight of them) to generate dollars for the area’s struggling economy. here's the link: http://www.nbcmiami.com/news/l...Webcam-53495872.html

I watch the meerkats since the thread started. I always said that I would see them in person soon since I don't live too far from the zoo. I will probably go when it's cooler in November.

The Miami Meerkat cam, I can get everything but the cam!! Its just a big black square, no matter what I try I can't get the cam to work. I do have another I found recently, and its a Scotland Zoo, they recently got a male and female who had pups! Nothing is cuter than a meerkat pup, I watch them all the time, soon as I turn on my computer, I go straight to the cam, to see what they are doing, and you can hear them too. Heres the link, Enjoy!! http://www.blairdrummond.com/general/webcam.php

Thank you for the new link.
Regarding the Miami Metro Zoo Meerkat Webcam, if a big dark square is visible only, it is probably because it is night time in the eastern coast of the US (right now it gets dark by about 7 o' clock). The camera cannot be adjusted by viewers.

Oh Thanks Zettak, I didn't think of that, and I live on the eastern coast! only nowhere near Miami, I'm in CT. Didn't you like the Drummond Zoo cam, its a bit dark, but you can watch the pups, and hear them chirp and the little 'barks' that they do.
I actually got to see meerkats on my summer vacation, this year, it was a top priority for me. When I learned they were at a zoo in Massachusetts,The Capron Park Zoo, only one state away from me. I did go, and they are even sweeter in person. I got some great pics of them. I wish I could go more often, my family had to drag me away from them! I disagree with the fact that some say they have 'beady' eyes, I didn't think so at all, their eyes are much bigger than a squirrel or rabbit, they are much larger, almost humanlike, making them of course more endearing!
