yeah i think she is!!! i dont care what everyone else says or does i think she is poor!!! i live in france and im seeing mm for the first time well compared to every 1 else here, i am on season 2 now but i think she SUCKS!!!!!!!!! how could she be so cold to mozart?!?!? mozart was such an awesome meerkat and was so sweet how could any mother evict their own daughter??!?!? and flower stole food from her own pups and abandoned mozart leaving her pups to die and be eaten by the commandoes!!! she is a BAD MOM!!!! i DO NOT LIKE HER!!!! omg what is so great about her anyway?!??!?!?!

Honey, do your research on meerkats. Flower is just doing what all dominant female meerkats do. Shes not bad, and she does not suck. Frankly I get tied of trying to defend her. You realy need to look up some information on meerkat societys. If Mozart was the DF, she would do the same thing to Flower.

First of all, the litter you mentioned being abandoned was never actually abandoned. This was a story change made by the producers , as Mozart was their tragic figure of the season. In reality Flower evicted Mozart while they were both pregnant, but allowed Mozart (still pregnant) to return to the group, where Mozart began asserting her dominance, attacking and evicting her younger sisters. This was seen on the show, but the events were out of order. Flower let her do this and give birth to her pups, and kept Whiskers at the same burrow for weeks so they could survive. All four made it to adulthood, and two are now dominants.

Secondly, it is in a pregnant meerkat's nature to evict subordinates. There are a number of posts on this board explaining why, I believe some are under "it's all Flower's fault"

Even Mozart attacked her sisters while pregnant. Meerkats are driven by instincts, and when pregnancy hormones kick in a mother's instincts are to evict any females who might kill her pups. This is because it is also in a meerkat's instincts to kill pups of other females if they are pregnant themselves. It doesn't matter what the meerkat has done for the family in the past, even the sweetest, most caring meerkats turn violent when their instincts are activated.

Meerkats aren't humans. You can think whatever you want of Flower, but she didn't live by our rules or our morality. She was an animal and she did what nature built her to do to survive and pass on her genes as often as possible. she did that very well, and so by meerkat standards she was an excellant mother. She raised 35 pups to adulthood. She let 15 of her grandchildren live. She led her group through hard times and kept them healthy and growing.

Bad things happen when a dominant female does not keep her daughters in line. This was seen at the Moomins group, which was never on the show. Dominant Grumpy refused to permanently evict her daughters, and they killed every litter she had for over two years straight. Is kicking out a few older females worth the lives of dozens of their younger siblings? That is an open question of morality, but not of natural selection. Meerkats are ruthless because it is what they were born to be. If not, they would die in the harsh desert they call home. I loved Mozart because she was so loving, but if she had been a little more like Flower her life may have come out very differently, and perhaps better.

LFM, do your homework before you fire off such reactonary messages. You just registered with the group; but to get to where you jumped in, you should have read the previous two years' worth of comments. Also, maybe you can get a copy of Prof. Tim Clutton-Brock's book (Meerkat Manor); you'll get to know the truth and the timeline about Flower and the other Kats.

Meerkats are not capable of human-like reasoning. They have instincts, and "most" follow them. The ones that don't are the ones that end up getting the short end of the stick when the day is done. It may seem barbaric, but that is life in the Kalahari.

If you hate flower so much and think shes a horrible df why do you continue to watch the show it is based of off her and her love for her family. Please watch what you say people get very senseitive about flower.

Wait till you see more of Season 2, Mozart has a rough side too you know! Flower is following her instincts, as what every other Dominant does. Mozart, if she was DF, would be just as strong.

Flower's badness as you so describe, is what is best for the Family. She makes so many sacrifices to keep the Whiskers alive. THAT's what being DF is all about, she must maintain the 'Balance of Power'.
