OMG There Goes My Hero....Watch him as he goes! Shakespeare...I lived & died for this little guy. Such a magnificent face with strength & softness. Thank you so much VVM032.
It is so awesome. The picture quality is amazing. To see Courageous Little Shakespeare, Mozart and Tosca in their pup embrace to protect the wee big eyed fuzzies, brought back so many memories of what Meerkat Manor, the Whiskers as we once knew them, have all meant to me.
I am sobbing....where is my meerkat blankie?!!!

Can I ask you guys something? Where are you getting this information that Shakes has died from? Are more and more people losing faith in Shakes being strong enough to survive after leaving the Whiskers? He was on the verge of leaving the group in search of his own group, anyways. Could it be possible that he left and decided to stay gone in search of his own group, besides, that's what happens to meerkats, Lions, and all other group animals.

Hi Philmeerkat! I think the confusion is the conflicting information. It seems that it was not Shakespeare babysitting the day of the fight, he babysat the day before. There are also two different versions of the snakebite(s), I've seen that it was one, I've seen that it was two. I have also read that he was seen in a fight and limped off. Right after JE, it was said that a dead kat matching his description was found at the edge of the reserve, but now there are sightings. I really don't think we will ever know for sure. If he did disappear after any of this, I am sure that as he got older and became mature, his appearence would have changed. I hope that he is alive. I think it is possible. All of these things happened when he was young and hopefully strong enough to overcome any snakebite(s) or fight(s). I am a little concerned about the TB, but I certainly do not want to start a rumor, I have heard NOTHING about TB when it comes to Shakespeare, it is just another peril that the kats are faced with. I am just going to assume that he is alive and well, it would be wonderful if he has his own family.
Take care, Flotosbea

Hi again Philmeerkat. Now that I think about it, there were three version of the snakebite(s). One is that he was bit once, the next one is that he took two bites in the first incident, and another says there was a later, unrelated bite. No wonder there is confusion!?!?
Take care Flotosbea

Shakespeare was our brave Prince and I shall always love and treasure him. I too love that image of him, Tosca and Mozart protecting the wee ones, the future of the family. I shall also remember him as being the one, despite a wounded and hurting leg taking on 6 Lazuli, bleeding but unbroken and most of all undefeated!
Love you always... a true Prince of the Blood- could he be no one else's son BUT our Queen Flower's?

Hello 2Dear! What a lovely sentiment for our little hero Shakespeare! If he is alive and has a family, what a fine leader he would make! So thoughtful of the pups, so gentle. If he has a Lady Kat, I am sure he is treating her royaly! He was so caring. Thank you for the beautiful post.

Hi toribook95, yes, it would be wonderful to see Shakespeare again. If he is still around, I bet he's gorgeous, just like his dad.

Philmeerkat: I finally found the source that mentions Shakespeare. http://animal.discovery.com/fansites/meerkat/flower/obituary.html============================================== It's on this very A.P. site: Flower Memorial: Gone, But Not Forgotten The following is a copy of the last paragraph, word for word: Flower might have lived to see future generations of Whiskers if her life wasn't cut tragically short when she came face-to-masked-face with the snake that tragically dealt her final and fatal blow. Sadly, the Whiskers have felt the stinging bite of tragedy before, having lost Shakespeare, the heroic and valiant son of Flower, last winter.

Thanks everyone! I missed you too! Real life has been busy with Medical Coding studies and all, but I'm almost done. I will be going to both Meerkat movies but yes, with a heavy heart, Rocket Dog just grew on me, as did her mother, Flower and now missing Shakes again as well as Mozart- I just can't afford the tears, but I am sure that I will shed some during the film, golly I love Digger from National Geographic and I hardly knew him! Meerkats Are the cutests beings this side of heaven AND they do go right to your heart! I may not come here often but I haven't changed. I was going to say, how could such accidents be prevented? Three words: SANCTUARY! SANCTUARY! SANCTUARY! We need a Meerkat Preserve ! car free, predator free. See, I haven't changed- If not now then when, If not you then who? Still a card carrying member of the Meerkat Liberation League as always, 2dear_2me

Hi 2dear, now you are talking!!! Of course, without preditors, we would be overrun with the little kats, I am trying to find a "bad thing" about that! LOL
VVM032, being the eternal optimist, could lost mean "Lseen"? Or do they know for sure that he has died?

You are right 2dear..they do go right to your heart. Every single one of them....I feel like they are a part of me as much as my own animals are.

Suricate_VVM032: You are right that they mention that, but the only reason they are saying that is because, atleast as far as I know, he has not been seen since he left, so they (believe) he has passed. I know that Meerkats are similar to Lions where the male cubs leave the family group when they are mature enough and search for a group of their own, could that be a possibility of Shakes leaving and not being seen since? It seems like the producers are so quick to point out that a meerkat has died just because they left the research area, what if they don't want to be researched anymore by the people and leave, they do mention that some groups are not comfortable with having camera's and people around them, could that also be a possibility? Maybe Shakes joined a Nomad group where he just wants to be with his boys and have fun without the responsibilities of being a member of a group, could that be a possibility? I know the research people and the producers are the ones in the Kali observing the meerkats, but it seems like they are quick to judge these kinds of situations. It's like a husband and wife living in California get a divorce and the husband moves somewhere East and never speaks or visits Cali where the wife can see him, that doesn't mean he has died.
