Is there truley that much difference between rabbit food and Chichilla food?? Would it be bad for the chinchilla if he ate rabbit food? i wish there were larger quantities of chincilla food then i wouldn't have this problem!!!
There is definiantly a difference between the foods. The only real concern that I had from your post you that you seem to be changing your pets food. This is not a good thing to do. With small animals, they have what we would say a weak stomach. Changing their food with out wining can cause them to get very sick and even die. If you do decide to change your pets food always mix it with their original food so that their stomaches can get use to it. If you are having trouble finding the food that you use at the store the internet is a good resource. I would consult a vet before feeding your chincilla rabbit food. It just doesn't seem like a good idea. I hope that I helped.
The biggest problem with feeding your chin rabbit pellets is that rabbit pellets have a large amount of alfalfa hay. Alfalfa isn't all that good for chinchillas. Chinchilla pellets are made with timothy hay which is essential for their digestive system. Any vet who knows anything about chins will tell you to never feed your chin rabbit chow and vice versa. Go to the internet to buy your pellets and ALWAYS buy the same brand.
2xchins not everything you have said is true or accurate, first off the main reason people didnt feed there chins rabbit pellets was due in fact to a chemical that was added to the rabbit pellets, but that is no longer the case, and almost every single brand of chin, or rabbit pellets are made with alfalfa not timothy hay, that is why you should be giving timothy hay to your chins every single day, they need both pellets and loose hay,
and just so that it is known we run a chinchilla rescue here in mich, and we feed the chin kids a feed called penpal rabbit feed which if you check online is a very good brand reccomended by many chin breeders as well as rescue, t8tertot as long as you feed your chin the same feed every day and thee are many acceptable rabbit pellets, manna pro is one purina show is another as long as you DONOT change there feed every other week for example and you keep there diet the same, and you give thewm plenty of timothy hay every day your chin will thrive and stay very healthy,
but if you constantly change there pelleted feed then you have a good chance of causing things like G.I.stasis (sp) chins do not take well to harsh changes in there feeding, there is so much you need to learn to properly care for chinchillas, and that is one reason they are not considered a first time pet as they can be exspensive to care for,,
