Bunney, Rats are extremely adorable. Why don't you google a "Blue dumbo rat?" There are MANY varieties of rats. I used to show mine in New Jersey. I only have 13 now, but I used to have 52. As soon as my wife and I get a house again, we're going to enlarge the rattery...
They are also one of the most intelligent rodents.

Bunney, The tails aren't bald. (It bothers me when people say that. Most people who say it have never been close to a rat.) The tail is covered in short, prickly hairs.
And, if the tails do bother you, there are Manx rats. Those are rats that do not have tails.
I am not against owning rabbits. They're a bit too on the smelly side for me. Something in their urine bothers me. And, no offense, but they're not a smart enough mammal. Yes, they can be quite affectionate, but I'd rather have something that I can teach and it can learn.
I used to have a Netherland Dwarf/Rex cross. I showed him in 4H. He lived to be around 10 years old. He wasn't anything fancy. He was just plain ol' black. He was my friend for many years. However, I do not think that I'll own a rabbit ever again. For the most part, I like animals that can live in a colony together. Did you know female rats will help raise eachothers' young? That's always helpful. I have a beautiful Russian Blue Dumbo Self that goes by Ella for short, and she's a wonderful nurse. She'll even go as far as lactating.
If i breed my rabbits at the same time and one of them doesn't take care of thier young the other one will and i am friends with the owner of a big rabbitry in St. Clair MI and she will take wild baby bunnys and put them with the domestic ones and they will take care of them.
i don't want to argue but i just perfer rabbits and i really don't like rats that much
