You should get another Guinea pig but I never had mine in the same cage. They would play together under my supervision but they were both males and the were not purchased at the same place and time and there was an age difference.
as far as puting them together i would put them in different cages to start and introduce your recent guinea pig in the new guinea pigs cage and supervise
I think that you should get another guinea pig. I had two guinea pigs in the same cage for a while and then one died. The other one got so sad that we think he died of depression from losing his friend. You don't want to put the guinea pigs in the same cage right away but have them meet a couple times a day, outside of both their cages, and watch them. You may also want to take your guinea pig with you to the pet store to see if your guinea pig likes the other one. Thats what we did with my rat when we got the second one and now they are great friends.
