Shelbyville: Rodents need to chew as you already know. I will not go into details about their chewing needs but I will tell you, there a few things you can do. You can put something like a mild hot sauce (make sure it's made of ingredients that won't poison them. Or you can make your own gross-tasting food) and put it on the wood. You can also put your existing cage up for sale on ebay or craigslist.com and use the money that you earn for buying another cage. Most of the time when they chew on the bars of a cage, they are bored but this is wood. They are just doing what they do naturally. I would recomend talking to somebody at a pet store and ask them about something to spray on the wood that tastes bad and spray that on the wood. They will stay away from it and pretends it was never there.

rats_rule: read the ingredients, if they aren't things that they can't eat (ask you vet if you are concerned) then it's fine. But if it's millet spray (that long orange stuff that no bird can deny) then that's perfectly fine. They love that. But normal bird treats, It depends on the kind of it. Since I can't see it or anything, I would recomend talking to your vet. Rats can eat basicly anything from veggies to cake (in very small portions) so I would think It would be okay. How long have they been eating it? If they've been eating it for more than about a week, I think they should be fine.

When I walk into my room where I keep them, she squeaks for more food, and she already has alot of timothy hay and grain in there. Should I keep giving her more food, because she is costing me a whole lot of money on buying more food. Please help me with my problem. I don't wanna spend more of my mom's money than I have too. Are you sure the piggy is acually squeaking for the food? Maybe she's just saying hello! Piggies love to talk and so she probably isn't squeaking for food.

If there is enough food in her cage, don't give her more. She'll eat what she has if she's hungry.

she is NOT squeaking for food. Guinea pigs are very vocal. she just "talking". stop putting more food in there.

I'm sorry I wasn't on. I am in the process of moving and I wasn't feeling too good. Now for the answers! The guinea pigs are PROBABLY just saying hi. When they squeak for food and they already have it in there, don't do anything. They might just want treats. They will soon learn that squeaking dosen't lead anywhere. I am not sure what "tricks" guinea pigs can do but anything they do naturally, can become a trick. If they like to lick things, then say what the trick name will be then give them a treat. Soon when hearing "lick" or whatever the name is, they will lick you or whatever is near!

Hamsters: they can definately be all black. I babysat my friend's hamster and one was all black. They are called black bear hamsters. They are just syrian hamsters that are black. I haven't yet seen an albino hamster so I wouldn't bet on getting one. There are many kinds of food out there but some of them aren't the best. Pick a food with lots of different ingredients. Hamsters aren't so crazy about pellets so I would try to avoid them. But sometimes they do like them. Make sure to give him/her lots of fruits and veggies every day but not too much or they may get an upset stomach.

Hi! We have a gerbil from our preschool who is about 2 years old and very sweet. We adopted a new gerbil that is about 1 yr old and also sweet. We tried the split cage method for 24 hours and introduced them and they were doing great. grooming each other and very happy. My kids threw some treats in within an hour of introduction. (big mistake and I regret) there was a fight with some blood and I immediately removed and separated the two. I have read that they are much happier in pairs. Can we try re-introducing them or give up and give one back to preschool. Both gerbils are acting fine this morning. They fought last night around 5pm.
