We found an orphaned rabbit. it's mother we found dead as it's other siblings. it has all it's hair and is eating solids and seems healthy so we guess it is about four or five weeks old. We don't if we should let it go or take it to the zoo or vet or something. Any helpful tips or suggestions?? Confused thanks! Smile

Do not release it. It will die. Especially at such a young age without a mother. Also it probably won't be able to learn basic skills like finding food and running from predators. Take it to a vet. If they say it's healthy then keep it. If it's sick, then let them take care of it, then keep it. If you give it to a shelter, I doubt they would accept it. This happened to my friend and they tried many shelters but none would take a wild rabbit. And if they do, then they will probably kill it since it's wild. It was very good of you to save it's life and I hope it stays happy and healthy! Big Grin

Good. Rabbits like deep bedding to dig around and burrow in. They are very smart and would like the bedding. I think she will be just fine with you Smile

thanks. it is burrowing now. it likes to get all the way under the bedding. the only way we knoe its still in there is that the bedding moves! lol. Big Grin the problem is my dad does not want the bunny to stay with us. and we don't know what to feed it. should we give it milk or water? it does eat the grass and clover we give it and we read on a website not to give it veggies so i'm not exactly sure what to feed it.

p.s. i think it is a baby cottontail and cottontails get kinda big, but i'm not entirely sure. the ones around our house seem bigger than hutch bunnies. my friend has a hutch bunny and it seems smaller to me. right now my bunny (my sister named it Otto) fits in my hand with out going over and i'm small for my age (14). right now we have Otto in an old hamster cage that is pretty small. we're trying to locate my old rabbit cage witch is considerably larger but i still don't think Otto will have enough room considering Otto is wild.

what kind of bedding are you using? Most bedding is bad for buns. Really, the only aceptable kind in my opinion is newspaper, which they especially like to dig, and is okay if they indgest it. If it is any kind of wood shaving, take it out NOW! the poor baby is already in a weak state from being away from mom, and shavings cause respitory infections. From my research, only aspen wood PELLETS are okay to use, but they're kind of pointless. Try putting a towel in.It will burrow in this, but take it out of it attempts to eat it. How unfortunate that my favorite website (another rabbit forum) is under construction and will be until the 13th. Until then, check out the house rabbit society page. They might have something. Normally, I would look for you, but I don't have the time right now and apparently, I'm using "trigger words" that prevent my posts from being up right away. They have to be reviewed or something. This is unusual, as I don't curse or anything. All I'm doing is trying to give advice. I consider it good advie, and it's best if administered right away. There might not be time for this little bunny to wait. (not that there's anything life an death on this) Try offering some alphalpha hay mixed in with it grass and some water. Just make sure that your lawn was not treated with anything and where you're getting your grass is far away from neighbors who have treated their lawn, you don't want to poision the poor little thing. GOOD LUCK!

do not release it. if you have decied that you can't keep it. bring it to a pet rescue center. do you have a cage? if you have decied to keep it you have to stroke it in your lap for an hour to gain its trust. Smile
