okay i dont have a guini pig but my friend does and they are really easy to take care of they need a large cage, chew sticks, timothy hay, bedding, hideaway houses, and they like carrots and apples also they need to be held every day this is just the basics if u go to the library find some books on guni pigs they are really helpful...
You need to give them Vitamin C because they are defficent in it. Usually pet store sell stuff to put in their water or you can give them oranges (the stuff for the water is easier). Another thing most people dont know is that you have to clean out their private parts. They get a buildup of nasty stuff (dirt, poop, urine, bedding) in there and its good to clean that out every once in a while. Believe me its not the most pleasent thing in the world but its good for them. I had to do it at school (went to school for Veterinary Technician).
The part about the vitamin C is correct. They also need to be kept out of drafts as upper respiratory infections are difficult to treat and I would recommend getting two OF THE SAME SEX, so they have a buddy. They make great pets, though.
also, dust is bad for their lungs, so its good to make sure there is no dust in their food bowl and also sometimes in the hay. and there are some fruits/vegetables guinea pigs shouldn't eat..and the food pellets with the seeds and "yummy-looking" chips in them are not the best. there is a brand called Mazuri or sumthing like that, and I use it with my guinea pigs... also, its good to get them used to changing foods, just in case the brand you normally buy isn't in stock. When changing the food, mix them in so its not immediate change so like for a couple days have it 75% old food and 25% new and then eventually 50% 50% and then 25% old food 75% new etc.
For cages, there are some called C&C which is cubes and coroplast, for more info go to http://www.guineapigcages.com/howto.htm the cubes can be found at target, but i'm not 100% sure... if you do get a guinea pig, you should buy a couple books on them, they are very cute =]
