Hi Down-2-earth,
I would never feed my cat Iams for a very important reason. Iams does cruel testing on animals!! Please go to http://iamscruelty.com
The food itself may be OK, but I won't support any company that tortures animals.

My family shows dogs and although we are Purina Pro Plan fans, we have used iams. I have never been impressed with it on a quality level. The adult formulas seem to have a lot of corn and wheat in them-2 ingredients dogs tend to have allergy problems with. Also, the food never did too much to improve the coat health of our animals. We stopped feeding it years ago and we will never feed it again due to Iams's cruelty against animals. However, I guess it could pass as a maintance food. If your dogs are doing well on it then that's all that matters.

This is so sad, not just for the dogs and cats that died but also for the millions of farm animals who's flesh will just be thrown away because of the recall.

Rat Poison Cited In Pet Food Recall
Wheat From China Contaminated, Lab Says

POSTED: 7:52 am PDT March 23, 2007

http://www.10News. com/tu/5nyBCQiv9 .html

A spokeswoman for the New York state Department of Agriculture and
Markets said Friday that rodent poison was found in tainted pet food
that killed several animals, and sparked a nationwide recall.

A spokeswoman did not identifying the chemical or its source, beyond
saying that it's rodent poison. State officials will be releasing
laboratory findings later today. A news conference is expected at 1
p.m. EDT. Watch live on 10News.com.

ABC News reported that the chemical was aminopterin, which was on
wheat imported from China.

Various online medical sources indicate that aminopterin is also
used in trials to treat leukemia.

Sixteen animal deaths led to the recall of 60 (m) million cans and
pouches of pet food sold throughout North America under 95 brand
names.

I wish I would have read your messages a long time ago. I was never aware of all the atrocious things that went into pet food. Unfortunately I'm now looking into this after my pug dog, Ruby, passed away from what we feel was apart of the "Menu Foods Recall." As all you pet lovers know, we cannot put into words how much she is missed. Ruby ate Eukanuba lamb & rice. I always thought Eukanuba was a top brand and it was recommended by our vet. If I should own a dog again, I will thoroughly investigate the ingredients of the pet food. Ruby had all the symptoms stated in the recall: lethargy, lack of appetite, vomiting, diarrhea, and internal bleeding which is I believe finally what took her. Though the news stations all seem to report KIDNEY failure, Ruby had LIVER failure. My family and I are convinced that she passed away because of the food. Today was the first report I heard of another animal suffering from LIVER failure and I know there are more out there. I do believe Menu Foods and others knew about this contamination long before they made an announcement - just look into the story of the CFO of Menu Foods selling quite a bit of stock 3 weeks before the announcement, the same time people starting calling in to report pet illnesses! I find that more than just coincidence. I am looking for others to share their stories and go after these companies, demanding stricter regulations within the pet food industry. Also why is it that pets are considered mere property. Ruby is irreplaceable as I'm sure many of your pets are.
