To whom this letter reads, Hi, as most of you know I am JulFire or DayFire, my main goal is to help, mostly animals. I am too young to start any origination of any short, for I am thirteen years of age. Am I right? I wish to help in any way; I try to adopt any animal at any shelter that is way most people call my home a haven for animals. I keep anything but hoofed animals for I have no barn. I already work at a shelter, but I feel I need to help more! Please we need your help! I might be one person in Colorado but I can make a difference. Right? The sooner that you answer my plead that soon we can help everyone! And please just don’t say there is nothing else I can do ! We need you help, and we need it now. Thanks. Care in Colorado JulFire

hi julfire. i know how you feel, i am only 14 and am lost on how to help animals, so i started doing craft shows and selling wildlife warrior bands, the craft money i send to a shelter or i buy cat litter and dog and cat toys for the shelters, also i plant trees, and make bird nesting boxes. i am always trying to help an animal, and will be sure to tell you if i find anything else we can do to help!

I would like to say that I think you are both extremely remarkable. I just want to remind you that you don't need to 'adopt' everyone that needs help. Sometimes they just need a quiet place to rest and recovery from sickness or injuries. This is why fosters exist. Often having a foster parent makes a pet more adoptable and twice as likely to find a forever home. As a foster parent I know I have helped many more animals then I could have by adopting the few I have room for at one time.
Anyway, keep going!!

i have been saving lost and injured animals since i was 6 years old. i am now 23. at times it seems like you're not doing enough, but you're doing more than enough considering all the people out there who don't care for animals like they should. one person can make a difference, that's proven every day. you've just got to go with what you beleive in and do what you know is the right thing in your heart.

If you're feeling like you're out of age range and feel strongly about animals wellbeing and rights you can check out PETA's website that has MANY opportunities for young people. it shows you that theres more to being an animal activist than taking care of animals. This link takes you to what I'm talking about: http://www.peta.org/ActionCenter/make-a-difference.asp#students

Sorry about the long length message, but it's good - I was in your place once. "How can me, a kid/teenager make a difference?" Unfortunately when I was your age I wasn't aware of the ideas which I will soon tell you about. When I got a little older (college), I got wiser and more aware. I would like to help you and give you ideas so that you can start right now. One person can certainly make a difference! Look at individuals like Steve Irwin, Jeff Corwin...individual people making big differences. Granted most of us don't have their fame as a tool, but that doesn't mean individuals can't save many animal lives. One thing you can do is write articles for newspapers and magazines like I have done (March 2007 issue of Reptiles Magazine - Schneider's skink article). Volunteering at animal rescue organizations like you've been doing helps a lot too. Making websites to help spread the message. The key to helping animals, believe it or not is people. If you can educate people, that in its self can save many animal lives; for every animal friend, there is one less animal "enemy". Regarding PETA, I absolutely agree with their ideology of saving animals, but be careful. PETA is an agressive organization that usually gets ignored due to how agressive they are with their messages and tactics. People will listen to you better if you aren't agressive; subtle messages work best such as writing a letter to the government, writing articles, teach kids about animals by brining an animal into a class room, etc. I have worked for my state government as an intern working with the state endangered / federally threatened Piping plover (shore bird) and I will vouch for the fact that educating people goes a long way. Due to our education, phamphlets, and simply talking with people, we and the park police were soon getting phone calls from our new animal friends reporting bad people bothering the plovers (which is a federal offence by the way). This happened because of the fact we educated them and gave them a tool to use - the phone numbers. To help sum up my message, keep in mind Animal Planet's new message: ROAR - Reach Out Act Respond! Best of luck in your mission! Tim www.angelfire.com/ny5/schneider_skinks/

Dear Tim,
Thank you for your advice on this topic. I’m now in high school and hope that my Science teacher will let me bring in more than just my snake so I can teach the class/es more then just about reptiles. Also my dad thinks the same, but more viciously, about PETA. Your help is very much appreciated to me, and to all NEVER GIVE IN OR UP! For it is up to us, all of us, to make a difference in this ever changing world, and hopefully change for the better will come soon. Once again thanks! Care in Colorado, JulFire (Or DayFire)
P.S I don’t mind your long length message and did you know that more boys are afraid of snakes then girls? Wow! And may one day the animal lovers become like Steve Irwin, Jeff Corwin individual people making big differences, just like you said, to stand up and voice their mind, and not the mind of others.
