Since April of 2005 I have been saveing and finding homes for unwanted pocket pets, Mainly Rats...pet rats. I know alot of people out there think that these creatures are dirty, smelly and full of disease. They are NOT...the domestic rat can learn over 40 words, includeing their names, hundreds of tricks(includeing litter box training, and agility, yes same agility dogs are taught. They can even sniff out landmines without setting them off so the proper people can defuse them saftly. They test drugs before people do makeing sure they are safe for us, and therefor save lives. My rescue is out of my heart, time and wallet. Rats are still concidered an exotic pet and so the vet bills and finding a rat savy vet are high. A simple surgery on a rat costs around $300...more then a dog getting spayed or nuetured. People so often avoid that, and look at small animals as disposable pets. I am here to ROAR saying that they are not! Small animals, like the rat, can give as much love if not more then dogs or cats because they have a shorter time to do so. My purpose is to extend awareness to people of their "disposable pets" that they are not disposable. And teach them that every animal great or small deserves our care and love no matter the species. I agree. I have had many rats in my life and they make wonderful pets. When my daughter was 6 she wanted her own pet. I got her a rat. She has had rats ever since (she is now 23 and her daughter has a rat). They are smart, social, loving, and very clean. I highly recommend rats as pets. Thanks for helping these beautiful, misunderstood animals Tumeria
