Hey guys, I had acouple questions that I beleive could be answered here. This is mainly for the guys who are active or have been on active duty, especially any SEALs or SFs. Let me preface this by saying, my only exposure to military tactics/weapons has been this show/documenteries on the history channel/video games like GRAW and SOCOM. My questions are regarding camo BDU's and AR with the grenade launcher attachement. As far as missions and ops go, is each unit and or operator allowed to choose the type of camo they wear, or is it regulated by the specifc branch/mission perameters? I wanna know this becuase I've heard of Crye Associates that manufacture multicam combat uniforms. They say at least on their site that they are outfitting units with the stuff, but all I ever see is the MARPAT stuff on TV. My second question regards the UGL I belive, or under-barrel grenade launcher. Why is it that in games like GRAW most weapons outfitted with the UGL have no optics save maybe an aimpoint CQC sight. Is this true in the field are most weapons fitted with the launcher unable to mount a scope of some sort? It would seem more effective to utilize the AR's reach while still giving it that extra punch with the launcher? Like I said, I don't know much about this and I've always been curious, hence why I'm asking here.
In the Corps we wear what we were issued. Marpat woodland or Marpat desert. I can not speak about USASOC, NAVSPEWAR or AFSOC. But the above is how we do it.
You can put different optics on different weapons. You can put an ACOG on a M4 with a 203. But this is largely decided by the TE (Table of Equipment), that says who in what team, SQD, Section, PLT, Co, etc should have what and why. Mission will dictate.
