Whether or not any TV show continues depends entirely upon the number of viewers/ratings. While those of us who do visit this OI website,
place and respond to posts here on the message board are certainly devoted to OI and orangutan rescue and preservation we are relatively few in number. I took the time to look back through all the posts on this OI message board and was quite surprised that there really are very few of us posting messages, reading or responding to posts. It's the same "handfull" of people except that some who previously posted messages here haven't done so for quite some time. My concern is that there seems to be a declining interest in OI and my hope is that it is "only on this message board" and not for OI in general! I don't know what the ratings are for OI but if they decline then the end of the TV series will follow, that much I'm sure of!
While I try to watch "every single OI show" I have missed a few (which is why I buy the seasons DVD) OI shows. My question then, to other viewers here is this: Has Animal Planet ever mentioned this OI message board and directed viewers of OI to check out this board and post their comments on the show here? If they have, then I missed it. If they haven't then it might be wise to do so as this board keeps up a continued interest in OI during the time periods when OI isn't being broadcast. There certainly has to be thousands, if not tens of thousands of people who watch and love OI, but who don't post messages here or read the messages here for whatever reason(s) that might be. Not knowing this message board is here could be "one" of the reasons.

In closing I would like to, once again, encourage everyone here to go to: www.redapes.org (if you haven't already) and read about the terrible malaria outbreak at OI and see poor little Angely who recently lost her life to the disease. This website will also keep you up-to-date on what's going on not only at OI but also with orangutan preservation in general. Orangutans and OI need your help, without orangutans there will be no Orangutan Island. Orangutan Diaries is the United Kingdoms version of Orangutan Island, but totally different than the U.S. OI, so you might want to go to the BOS U.K. website where you can get a copy of the DVD for Orangutan Diaries....which will also help the orangutans!
I have the DVD and it's a great one!

The Orangutan Diaries DVD is Region 2, the U.S. is Region 1. There was a note on one of the BOS shops that U.S. customers would hopefully be included soon.

About promoting OI, I get multiple copies of the OI dvd & spread them out. Talk about the show, the plight of our nearest relatives. I've had no response from either Discovery channel or Animal Planet about more advertising, or about prime time scheduling.

Broom, you are correct; Orangutan Diaries DVD is REGION 2 and the U.S. region 1. I have two DVD players, one in the living room and another in the den. The older DVD player will NOT play Region 2 DVD's even though it is a Sony and cost more than 3 times what the newer "cheapie" dvd player in the den costs. However, the cheapie DVD player being a 2008 model plays "all regions" of dvd's. Before I purchased my latest dvd player I had to play my Orangutan Diaries DVD region 2 on my computer dvd player.....no problem!
Broom, have you ever seen Animal Planet advertise the OI website or this message board?

No I haven't, alphaone. And I don't know how to inform redapes.org & the others that we exist. They have links to other blogs on their sites. So if you know how, please do so.

I've tried to follow some of the links to other blogs, but they're difficult. Sorta gave up when I ran into "orangutan porn" stuff. Maybe I'm a prude, but this site is clean, no foul language that takes away from our pride supporting the orangs, so I hope you can let BOS know we're here. Hilda

Thanks for the tip about the new DVD playerss. I, too, have 2 Sony players, didn't plan to get another, but certainly will now. My kids can always use a hand me down (lol).

Thanks for the info Broom. I don't know if "ALL" new DVD players play all Regions, but my new $30.00 dvd player (on sale at KMart last year) plays all regions and said so on the box. I suggest checking the box or checking with a sales clerk to make sure your new player will play ALL REGIONS before purchasing it. My new Memorex DVD player was purchased just to watch Orangutan Diaries DVD's and any other Region 2 dvd's I might purchase so I wasn't going to spend a fortune on it. I've always felt that you do get what you pay for but in this case I honestly have to say that I can tell no difference in the quality of picture or sound between the cheap memorex dvd player and my much more expensive Sony player.
I'll see what I can do about letting BOS know that we're here....thanks for the great idea!
