Katie, the show has been cancelled. There will be no season 3, & no season 2 DVD. I am heartbroken. I just don't know how we can keep the word out about our furry friends desperate plight if we don't have a show.
Hopefully, Animal Planet will continue to show reruns of the 1st 2 seasons.

I'm very upset to hear that Animal Planet will not be bringing this show back for a third season. Right when Lone Droscher-Nielsen was getting them moved to a bigger area for them to live in. I'm sure everyone who was into this show can agree that they really started to feel a lot of emotions for the orangutans. Now to have them just pulled away and not being able to follow how they are doing is just wrong on the part of Animal Planet. I'd like to hear an explanation from Animal Planet on why they will not be bringing this show back again.
I feel this show was a great way for people to find out about all the issues that they are facing in Borneo and without this show it will only hurt Lone's struggles.
I heard the cancellation was due to LOW VIEWERSHIP, therefore economics. I simply cannot believe that. The outpouring of dissent about cancelling the show disproves the viewership issue. I hope Lone & crew will find another channel that will restart the show.
I absolutely love this show, and I am adding my "vote" to keep it on the air. Animal Planet's commitment and mission should be to create programming that promotes the welfare of animals. Orangutan Island is not only an entertaining program, but it highlights the plight and endangerment of these animals. If by watching this show, I'm helping keep Lone's sanctuary active, then I feel Orangutan Island is a huge success. Please keep it on the air!!
Michelle, to air your distress at the cancellation of the show, click on the "contact us" link just below the brown bar here. I don't think they read this blog.
