OK, I think that it was from an episode of Flip That House that I saw this weekend. The guy was flipping a house in North Hollywood, CA - to make sure you know which one I am talking about, he was under budget and ahead of schedule, does it regularly and put a fire pit in the backyard. Anyways - in the house he did a concrete overlay instead of regular tile. They showed the guys laying down what looked like tape, pouring the concrete solution and then once hardened, they pulled the "tape" up so that it made a tile like grid. I am familiar with scoring of the concrete but have not been able to find this technique anywhere. Anyone know of a website where I could look into this??? Really appreciate the help!

I came on here looking for exactly that...the concrete overlay they did on that show in North Hollywood. That was really interesting and should cut costs plenty. They should put more info on their 'step by step' section with details on techniques, colors used, manufacturer names, and even the names of the contractors!
Anyways, I wanna know too and I hope someone responds!

I was planning to lay down ceramic tile as well until I saw the same episode this weekend. I was hoping to find the same info, Colors Used, Manufacturer names, and mainly contractors! I hope someone will post info soon.

I live 10 minutes from North Hollywood. I wish the show posted the names of the contractors after each episode. Some shows (like Design on a Dime and Divine Design) list credits on their websites. You can look up a specific episode, and there is a list of info. I wish Flip that House did that too with products and contractors. The contractor on this episode seemed knowledgable. He did a good job on this house, which looked like a crackhouse before. I'd love to know how they did the concrete overlay. I noticed that the workers weren't wearing shoes when they were pulling up the tape. They were in their socks so the concrete must have been soft, enabling the tape to be pulled up. But I wonder if they used a special concrete mixture because the lines looked really clean when they pulled the tape up. Wish I knew the contractor's name and telephone number. They just said his first name - Steve. He and his workers were wearing white tshirts with a company logo, but you couldn't make it out. It was too blurry. I don't know if the show did that on purpose. If anyone knows the name of the contractor, please post. I'd love to use this guy at my house.

Hey David! You did an AWESOME job on the North Hollywood house. When the episode first started, I couldn't believe anyone in their right mind would take this on. Most people would have torn it down. And at the end of the episode, it was truly impressive to see what you had accomplished. The neighbors should have thrown you a party for having upped their property values. By the way, did the house sell quickly? It seemed to be very reasonably priced.

Thank you to all who have had such great remarks about our decorative concrete overlay system. The manufacturer is Granicrete and I am the COO. We have certified independent installers across the country as well as offering opportunities for Premier Installer and Distributor opportunities. In addition to the concrete overlays, we have two other systems that you would be interested in. Our Countertop Resurfacing system has also been seen on national TV and received the World of Concretete 2007 Most Innovative Product Award. This product can transform even a Formica countertop into the look of granite, marble or other high-end stone at a fraction of the cost. Our 3D system is composed of modified lightweight concrete that can be used for water features, BBQ islands, and many other applicatons. Please visit our webiste at www.granicrete.com

This does seem like a very cool method for flooring. I would love to get this installed, but I've just sent the 2nd message through Granicrete.com and have not heard anything back. Maybe they are just super busy from the free advertising of the show. Hopefully I will hear from them soon.

Hey David!

Great show! My husband and I are Granicrete Installers in Denver, and would love to include some pictures on our site of the work you had done in your flip. If that would be ok with you, of course! We make mention of the episisode on our site-but it would be great if we had photos to show as well. If you have any photos you could forward on, that would be great! Please go to our site for email address/contact info.

Thanks in advance!
Terri

I too saw this episode - a friend who wanted my professional help with his kitchen remodel Tivo'd it for me. Upon superslowmo scrutiny of the buckets of countertop mix, I discovered Granicrete and subsequently attended the first Granicrete training in the northwest (in Portland, taught by the great Mark Winkelman, Granicretewink above). This system creates absolutely a high-value, versatile product, and success has followed it since its inception only a few years ago. Feel free to contact me about Granicrete in the Seattle area!
