I bought laminate flooring that needs to be installed. What would be a fair price to pay? I am not sure, so guidance would be nice.

The most affordable price from a qualified flooring expert is the best! The going rate is about 2.75 SF if you have the materials. Try posting your project at projectground.com for reputable contractors and competitive pricing. I found my flooring contractor from there.

we just bought our laminate flooring from lumber liquidators. they have a large variety and the prices are a lot cheaper. we got our "utopia maple laminate (6mm)" during labor day weekend for just $0.69 per sq. ft.

1st of all there are no deals at lumber liquidators. I have used their stuff in the past that my customers have purchased. Their product is not 1st run stuff. If the product is of 1st grade quality, do you really think you'll get it for .69 per square. The stuff is junk and It looks like junk when it's installed, as do most engineered flooring products. It looks cheap. I do alot of big custom home work. 3/4" T and G hardwood is the only true flooring to give you the warm rich look and feeling. Umm not to mention I can buy 3/4" T nd G 6" Cherry boards for about 2.00 per square foot. When it's done it looks like a million bucks.

As far as the intallation price. 2.75 per square foot. You'll never get it. You need to put a subsraight under that garbage. 1/4 underflooring then seal and sand all the screw holes and seams. If you read the manufaures specks. They won't warrent the flooring unless you have the underlayment down and sealed to prevent moisture. With that said. If the installers have to move your furnitue from room to room, install the underlayment, and install shoe molding. You looking at closer to 5.00 sq ft. For intallation.

FYI if your changing your flooring, chage the baseboard trim to 8" as well. That way the base trim will sit on top of the harwood and will cover the edge cuts. Then you don't need the junkie shoe moulding that always seem the get knocked off.

Again... daretheygo... so negative... I don't know what the market is like in your area, but I paid 2.80/sq ft. which included ripping up the old vinyl, and using floor leveler on the old subfloor which was still in very good condiditon.
If you, as a contractor, are charging $5/sq ft, your are probably ripping your customers off...

Reray ripping off customers ?? The 5.00 per sq ft. ( for hard wood , not laminate )Includes the cost of under floor layment as well as installing it. ripping out the old flooring. Cost of disposal. My work is done perfectly and to the exact MFG specifications. I get every job I bid. My numbers are inline.
I am booked till July 2008 already. So not onyly are my numbers inline, I have a waiting list most GC's would DIE for.

RERAY.. Make sure you read the entire post before you ripp me. I have never gone into a custmers house and the entire house was free of furniture. I have to rent A pod.. move all the furniture out of the house. If I'm doing the entire level of the home.

Also my work is for high end clients.

Like Mike Holmes says I do it right the 1st time. Cause I care about who is moving in.

I am not negative. Laminate flooring is and always will be forever JUNK. I will not install it nor will I let it be part of my scope of work. If the customer wants it, they have to do it after I pull off the job.
