B) I knew it was going to be fake going in... C) I was mislead by the ad campaign but when the show started, realized it was setting up a work of fiction.
Okay, maybe I was the only one who actually got it. The entire premise of the show was to try adn explain how a fictional species with extraordinary powers could possibly evolve in our ecosystem. Everyone knows that dragons are not real (except for a few twelve year olds in this forum that seriously make me question the quality of parenting in this day and age).
What will you do if i found a dragon and showed it to you? Will you say its real? or a Robot? Or an imaginary object? try to answer this question.......
Now is what you presented to me an actual dragon (need a little abstract thinking here) or something you just claim to be an actual dragon? And do you insist that it is a real dragon or do you shine it in an entertaining light, but never actually claim it to be real?
I've never seen God, but I believe he/she exists. Same with dragons, faeries, unicorns...all have stories told about them, in different cultures, just like God, yet there is no proof they do or do not exist. It's a matter of faith.
I realized that they were explaining (with real physics) how a dragon could have had its mythical powers... however I know a 46 year old who really believed this program as new found scientific discoveries and stll refuses to believe its not true... for the most part I'm just ranting about the ignorance and gullability of the public today, but I also believe that AP should have explained throughout the shoe that it was fake and not scientific fact!!!
Its fine if you believe in dragons and other mythical being of the same kind... I was just saying that you would have to be ignorant to START believing in hem because of this show!!!
That's true, this show would not have made believe in them. This show was a fairy tale, interesting, but still a fairy tale. Which is how, I think, they wanted us to view it.
Well, yes. With no existing proof they are. I believe before the first fossils of a dinosaur were found, people would have said the same thing about a Brontosaurus or a Tyrannosaurus.
I do not believe dragons are completely fictional. All legends have some basis in fact. Whether or not they could breathe fire is another issue altogether as most tales grow in the telling. More likely legends of dragons are based on encounters with some kind of predatory species, but whether it started with some guy finding his sheep dead and killing a wolf then the story growing a bit more each time he tells it until he is St. George the Dragonslayer or whether it was some animal close to the description of a dragon (like a crocodile or perhaps the last of a prehistoric species) remains to be seen.
No, there is no evidence that proves the existence of dragons or any that proves dinosaurs similar in appearance to them existed during the time of man. When I saw the ad saying remains had been found, I expected it to be similar to a komodo, if it was infact a real find.
Regardless, despite complete lack of proof, many cling to Christain Mythology so what is wrong with some believing in other mythological beasts?
Personally, I was hoping for them to explore theories as to whether or not dragons could have existed and offer some scientific evidence to support the argument, either for or against their existence. I was not expected merely a "fake" but scientifically plausible ecology with no evidence to support if they could have existed or not. My complain is the advertising not being more clear on the intent of the show purely covering ecology. The adds hinted at addressing the subject of whether or not they existed and why they were prevalent in so many cultures if they did not exist.
I honestly have to say that I'm rather dissapointed in a lot of the folks ranting about "not being told it was fake." People are sitting here flaming Animal Planet because they're upset for getting duped.
Sorry, folks, but if not everyone was fooled, and it's been shown that there are several warnings of the fantasy nature of the "documentary", then you really don't have a case for screaming at AP, do you? I'm sorry, but if you're angry at yourself for being dumb, don't take it out on the show. So you were fooled. Chalk it up to AP doing a good job and you just missed the disclaimer.
Even if it WAS fake, why did they have to say it was fake... I had gotten to believe they WERE real, just extinct now, yet you guys who pointed it out broke my heart... But, then again, they may have found this and the gov. kept it a secret!! Area 51, that crash in New Mexico, all conspiracies that the Gov. may know about but dont wanna tell us. You never will truly know, Animal Planet may just have said that so the goverment dosn't get all over them since they spilled all thier info. Really, where most say you need proof to believe, no one has proof that ALL old human cultures who had stories about dragons lied about them.
So what??!! You should have known this was going to be a faux documentary before it ever got started. I found it quite entertaining (if it only wasn't for my medications!) But that was because I figured it to be based on theories (which should have been implied). It's like their showing of The Future is Wild. Now that was a disappointment to me, but it's just AP's theories, doesn't mean they are so, and I wasn't expecting them to match my views.
The reason why they stated that this is a faux docoumentary started around the turn of the century (I think 1930's). Orson Welles wrote a book called Ender's Game which is about an alien race takind over human kind. One guy on NBC(I think) decided to act it out. But instead of a play they made it like a news cast. They said in the beginning that this was not real. Yet half the country believed it. They did not even stop to think why the other stations did not show this "doom of humans". The country went into pandemonium. I guess they did not want the same thing to happen.
It is the VIEWER'S fault if they believed the show was based on actual facts. It was stated REPEATEDLY on both the documentary and site itself that it was a "what IF" scenario, and that the documentary was imagining the dragon as an actual animal.
If you weren't paying attention to the show, then it's your fault for not picking up on that. It was obvious enough, and the viewing population shouldn't need to have something like that spoon-fed to them.
I feel enough information was given to make sure people knew it was a faux documentary. I heard the words "what if" numerous times during the show. If you were duped, it's YOUR fault for not paying attention, not AP or Discovery.
