I was surfing and thought I'd check out the Metric Revolution site. Looks like they're still working on the site (incomplete / blank information) however, I did see something interesting. The announcement was made months ago that the builders each get a stock bike to customize within the four month period. My error was that I assumed the "Cruiser" builders would all get the same model bike and that it would hopefully be some obscure model that doesn't already have a large aftermarket parts selection. Well surprise, the four "cruiser" bikes that will be built are a Suzuki Boulevard, Yamaha Road Star, Kawasaki Vulcan, and are you sitting down, the Triumph Rocket III!
I'm not sure how the selections were made, but you'd have to think that the guys who drew the Triumph's will be thoroughly tested, not to mention a bit miffed. I'm not saying it's a bad motorcycle, but it will take a substantial effort to make it a cool custom bike. I predict the the unveiling will be quite entertaining.
Ok, the mind is one of the first things to go (forgot something), but I promise I'm not responding to my own post.
I also meant to include that since the builder's will probably be chopping and modifying certain "factory" installed components, i.e. fuel delivery systems, intakes / air boxes, exhaust, ignition, etc., It will be curious to see if an E.P.A. "Assault Team" will be issuing fines for illegal modifcations during the unveiling. Ha ha.
Over the years, I've met a few of the staff members and both of the show hosts. I think the intent of the show is positive and it's defintitely a growing market, but only time will tell if it's quality entertainment or not. I already see some unique issues / conflicts that may arise, but I guess time will tell. I just hope that the unveiling happens in Daytona, I'll tell you all about it.
Hey Bone, I look forward to anything you might say about Daytona.I can't make it so perhaps you can talk a little about it as only the Bone man can do.
Bone, Beach Back in the 70's people would charge me caush I rode a Harley. And ya know they did not need to do that. Even back when, I felt as long as you are in the wind who gives a ****. I've ownd Lime's. So what! As long as your in the wind. Now the Speed channel had some guy with a chopped metric for Tony Stewart and one awsome bike. The frame and all was awsome. That new show could make it. There is a market for that. And I wish them all the luck in the world. Ya know some of them are lookers. We all have been surprised after looking at one, then realizing it was a metric. And I do wise them luck. It's like BBO most and I mean most use S&S motors, come on, I my self am and will for ever be a Harley man. Now S&S is cool but HD in my opion is #1. Now there is not a thing wrong with S&S not one thing they too have a market. So I say Bless all those who ride be it metric S&S or HD. In the wind Knuck
As usual, I basically agree with you. It doesn't matter to me what someone rides. Lets face it, if everyone on the planet loved Harley's and everyone that rides owned one, it would be pretty boring right? Same thing with the 360 rear tires. Could you imagine if every bike was built with one? As I've said before, a cool bike, is a cool bike and it means much less to me what make / model it is, than how well it is put together.
As far as S&S, it's no doubt a successful company with top notch products and there are also a few other good engine manufacturers, but I'm personally getting a little tired of seeing hundreds if not thousands of "Evo" based, polished engines in custom bikes. It's bordering on over-exposure. I think the modern reproductions of the Pans, Knucks, etc. are great and I look forward to seeing more of them. Heck, it probably won't be long before we see a new 120" flathead! Ok, that's pushing it, but we can get 80"ers.
God bless you brother!
p.s. As far as the Metric Revolution show, I wish them the best. I wasn't trying to be negative, just posting some observations was all.
Bone I did'nt feel you were being negative. Just observing my-self. And yes if all were HD's a boring would it would be. But the great part of OUR world is we do have a choice. It's like if we all wore tubans, what bore that would be. And with that said I'd like to say God bless our Troops for the right to speak freely.
