I saw Curtis make this as a dessert on one of his shows but I can't find it anywhere on the website. I love sopapillas! Is there anybody out there with the recipe? I would sooo appreciate it. Thanks!
2 c. flour 3 tsp. baking powder 1/2 tsp. salt 1 tbsp. shortening Oil for deep frying
Sift dry ingredients together in bowl. Cut in shortening until crumbly. Add 1/2 cup warm water gradually, stirring with fork. Dough will be crumbly. Turn onto lightly floured surface. Knead until smooth. Divide in half. Let stand for 10 minutes. Cut into 3" squares. Fry, several at a time, in deep fat at 400 degrees for 30 seconds on each side. Yield: 40 sopapillas.
I too am looking for this sopapilla recipe! Curtis made it with milk, cream and buttermilk for the liquid. Does anyone have this recipe-I am dying to try them! Please help!!! I don't understand why all the recipes are not on TLC's website-how frustrating!
yes! I am looking fo the same recipe! I wrote it down while I was watching the show but when I tried it, the dough didn't turn out right. It was too sticky even after I added more flour. This is what I had written down but I am thinking it is incorrect...
1/3 c. buttermilk 1/3 c. cream 1/3 c. milk cap full of vanilla sprinkle of cinnamon
in bowl mix all ingredients together into a sticky dough. kneed for 5 minutes until dough is smooth. let dough sit for 1/2 hour. on floured surface roll dough 1/2-1/4 inch thick. cut into shapes. place in hot oil till golden brown. loosly toss in a sugar and cinnamon mixture. place on plate and drizzle with honey!
if someone is feeling adventurous, try it and see if it works then let me know. I couldn't get the dough to the consistency like Curtis had
If you love sopapillas then try bunelos. A sweet fried bread. I am so into sweet. I love sweet. Sweet french fried chicken, sweet peas, sweet love, and sweet fried bread. How sweet.
