As with all cultures, there are those who stive to be unique or embrace a long tradition. Body Modification has been a part of humanity since the beginning of tribalism. Today, there are tattoos and piercings as the most common forms. However with advances of understanding genetic structures of DNA and RNA there maybe a science-fiction modication that could be turned reality.
Changing pigment of hair, eyes, and skin. Maybe even changing the structure to add unique looks such as animal appearance. Spots maybe in fashion. Maybe red iris. If you could change your appearance to anything within the realm of biology, would you?

Clearly this show (2057) assumes an immense amount of information on the future. Many factors had to have been considered to estimate the mass amount of information that this show is giving. I see the developement of human bodily augmentations as being a fantastical imaginative idea. With all the serious uses of sience of the future it is absurd to truely beleive that science would be abused to the extent of allowing humans to "splice" their DNA with animals. Although, I can see the possibility of augmenting the human body to enhance it but not to add flashy animalistic pizaz. Knowing some of the so called rich and famous will try and have science abused in such a way, I can only see practical human alterations like maybe a robotic arm or a robotic leg to allow a more efficeint and presice movement to said person receiving alterations. Although to see these as being a norm is also rather unlikely, for humans want to be human not cyborg or animal or any other species. For the human will they have lost a peice of their humanity once the implant or alteraion has occurred. That is my opinion on this topic of gene alteraion.

I have to disagree. I, as well as a good portion of the population of the US and the rest of the world would welcome the splicing of human and animal DNA. Now I will admit the idea of changing your body with Gene splicing even in the future will be painful and probably imporrible, but with the advances in cloning as well, it may be possible to genetically engineer a human animal crossbreed most likely as a specialized worker or soldier. I personally would volunteer for a chance to have myself a tail and the enhanced strength, and hearing of say a mouse or rat. That's just me though.

even today you can have horns inplanted in your head, and they can actually grow. and I don't really think expressing yourself is really abusing science. Things like breast implants, just to look like photoshoped models, now that is abusing science, but if some really likes tigers, and wants to look like one, that is their choice. though I do think to much splicing can be a really bad thing. If you can get fangs and stuff it wouldn't be that unlikely that we would get supervillians

Well, humanity is really a selfish race. One makes something, only to be taken and abused by another with greater.Take DNA splicing in this case. Let's say some unknown researcher painstakingly creates a method to do this with little side effects. The corporation he works for takes all the credit and makes a line of products that will change your bodily features, and has the whole nation under in it's hands insisting it's the "Hottest thing there is". Soon a idol will do it, then his followers, then their friends, then more people until it has become a craze. If used for good purpose this actually could be VERY useful.

You read my mind with the red iris bit.
Of course I would, first I'd like to 'fix' some of the things that are wrong with me, like my flat feet and almost constant headaches.
Next I will increase my intelligence, if my other changes pass the test of my enhanced mind I'd then follow through with red irises and a shade like nictitating membrane that darkens further in very bright light. Gills toughened nails that glow at will and further deep sea adaptations. Let's live longer while I'm at it.

I think this would cause widespread insanity

Although it would make millions, you have to think when are you ethically crossing the line, these alterations will probably cause a brand new form of racism if anything
