Hey guys! I just wanted to come say how excited I am about this show! Devin is adorable and is just perfect for this sort of show. I am a nutritionist-in-training and I love doing the exact sort of thing that Devin does- developing healthy versions of "bad" foods. I also loved the sort of quirky "imperfection" of the show, makes you feel like she is a real person cooking and not some pro chef. When she was making the sausage/egg breakfast sandwich, the egg didnt turn out perfect, and that would have never gone to air on a lot of other shows!
The only criticism that I do have is that she didn't put too much emphasis on using whole grains or sugar replacement. For the breakfast sandwich, she did mention you could use a whole grain bun, but she used just a normal one, even though she was trying to put a lot of emphasis on eating more fiber in the diet in general. I think she should have just used the whole grain bun to begin with because it's such an easy, healthy thing to do to replace a refined flour bun, and she is the role model here! I also would have liked to see some sugar alternatives, not like Splenda or Nutrasweet, but more like honey, agave, pure maple syrup, Stevia, etc in place of sugar. Those are just my tiny little opinions/criticisms, but overall, I love the show and can't wait to try some of the recipes myself!
I love this show! And the brownies are TO DIE FOR! They could stand up to any full fat brownies and they have 88 calories, no cholesterol, no saturated fat and only 1 g in general. I have been wanting EXACTLY THIS show forever! I think the thing that Lori28501 doesn't get is that this show is called "Healthy DECADENCE", and Devin is the ONLY chef I know who brings recipes that taste as good (or BETTER!) than the full fat full calorie versions with real sized portions! This is the first cooking show that even has a title suggesting that is the case. I've lost over 100 pounds eating Devin's food and I'm no longer diabetic thanks to her. I've followed Devin's work for years and love that she's obsessive and perfectionistic with her stuff (read the stuff before the recipes start in "Fast Food Fix" if you don't know what I'm talking about). I think it's great that she talks about fiber, but if she started adding weird substitutes or filling everything with whole grain this and tofu that then her stuff wouldn't be as good and we'd all want to stick with the full fat versions. Devin obviously talks about fruit and veggies, but all of the healthy chefs and nutritionist cook the way you talk about and we don't like it. That sandwich was a remake from Jack in the Box that is in "Fast Food Fix". She suggests the whole grain bun, but brings it to us as is at the fast food restaurant. This show is obviously about DECADENCE. Let's get that from her (since that's what she's promising) and go to the millions of other resources for agave and Stevia and tofu and.....
I like you are also very excited about the show. I think that it is a good show for starters like me who are looking for a way to eat healthier, but are not quite committed yet, if you know what i mean. I'd like to start cooking smarter and healthier for my family and me, not necessarily to lose weight, but to just eat better.
Hello all!! I too am a huge fan of this show... I love Devin!!! I love the fact that my hubby will eat her recipes.
I went and bought her book Fast Food Fixes...but am curious kateday911 how you lost so much weight with Devin's help?? Does she have other books I should know about?? Where were you getting your recipes and info??? Thanks so much!
Excited to try the red velvet cake for my hubby...that's his favorite cake!
Hi Callmepenguino & others. My husband found Devin's recipes in some Men's magazines years ago and I made a few of her things and they were all amazing. Then, she popped up in Women's Health Magazine and I freaked out I was so excited. She wrote the best magazine article ever written that was chock full of reicpes. It was called Busy Gal's 7 Day Meal Plan. It had recipes and snacks for every meal for a week and even had a grocery list of everything you needed to buy and showed you how to turn one meal in to others. There's a "Greek Goddess Pizza" recipe in there that my friends and I eat all of the time. Then I saw Fast Food Fix, her cookbook in Women's Health--they ran recipes and I ran out and bought it. Then she popped up on The Biggest Loser and I ran out and bought the Biggest Loser Cookbook when I found out that she wrote it. I have cooked at least 100 of her recipes (probably more) and my whole family has loved every one of them. I can't say that about anyone else's. Kind of funny that my husband brought her recipes home...now he has crush on her (good thing she lives in California and we don't) but he didn't even know what she looked like til Biggest Loser.
Oh wow! Do you know when those issues of those magazines came out? I would love to get those recipes, and am wondering if I could order back issues!
So glad to hear of someone making these recipes for their hubby and him liking them... it gives me hope, for my italian pizza lovin guy to actually eat something healthy!
I also need to get that The Biggest Loser cookbook!!! Is it just great??!!
I loved the last episode. I just made the Thai Noodle salad for dinner tonight. I'm packing it for lunch tomorrow. Can't wait. I wanted to eat the WHOLE thing myself! SO GOOD!
YES! The Biggest Loser Cookbook is great. And if your hubby loves pizza, you HAVE TO get Fast Food Fix. In that book, Devin shows you how to make the Pizza Hut Meatlovers Pan Pizza, Personal Pan Pizzas, Sbarro's Stuffed Crust Pizza, etc. The only thing I'll warn you about is that those do take a long time. But they're worth EVERY minute! YUM!
The Women's Health article was in the July/August 2005 issue. I don't know about the other ones. I looked, but can't find them right now. Sorry.
I just discovered Devin's show this past weekend and I absolutely love it. I am waiting for her Fast Food Fix cookbook and the Biggest Loser cookbook to arrive. I was encouraged to hear you lost alot of weight eating Devin's recipes. I have over 100 lbs. to lose and woud like to know how you kept going through the rough times. Thank you for any encouragement. Keep on writing.
Since you guys have made Devin's recipes, I'm a little concerned about her adding coffee and cappacino to the chocolate recipes to increase the chocolate flavor. My husband and I do not drink or like coffee. Does it give the recipes a coffee flavor?
HI, I just discovered Devin's show last week. I am going to purchase the Fast Food Fix and Biggest Loser cookbook. I was reading that she lost lots of weight and would like to do the same. I am a diabetic and need to get control on my eating habits. I love your dinners recipes but I would like to have breakfast recipes and some snack that are good to eat in between meals. Thank You...
Wow this is so inspiring to know that many of you have lost weight from Devin's show! I myself have been trying to lose weight but it can be hard when there are so many unhealthy options at my fingertips. Can anyone recommend any of Devin's recipes that are good for me to start with on my diet? I think it's great that she provides alternatives for all of our favorite foods like pizza and hamburgers. Her show is fantastic and really enjoyable to watch. Keep up the good work!
I'm so happy to see such positive posts about Devin. I think she's wonderful and I enjoy her show very much. I reached my goal at Weight Watchers recently, having lost 104 pounds and I've since lost another 5 pounds. I discovered Devin one day several months ago while channel surfing. Afer seeing her show I was hooked and I do the reminder option at the Discovery website so I don't miss a show. I also became a Biggest Loser fan and I have their two books, including the cookbook which is wonderful. Losing weight is hard. Keeping it off is even harder. I started making what I call Jello sundaes as treats for my husband and I (he lost 60 pounds). I make up things to do with the fat free, sugar free Jello pudding and the Free Cool Whip while staying within my WW daily points. I find those treats help me and keep me from eating the bad sweets which were my downfall. It's reality that I will always crave the sugary fat foods I used to eat. Now I have to eat them in moderation or try Devin's recipes. I believe Devin gives us a healthy way to enjoy low calorie, low fat variations of recipes. It's unrealistic to think that I am always going to eat totally healthy. If I can feel less deprived eating recipes like Devin's then I think it's so worth it.
I too love the show.........but my question is..what happened to it? It is no longer listed on the active programs and they are not advertising her anymore! Bring her back!!
I'm wondering what happened to the show too? Has it been cancelled? I really hope not, I look forward to her show every week...does anybody know anything???
