So, I woke up this morning to see my two zebra finches Fitch and Sheila not bouncing about their cage as usual so I had to investigate this. I looked inside the nest we had given them months ago which they always sleep in (we gave it to them to have eggs but they never did) and go figure, the second they jumped out there were three little finch eggs in there! Finally! I'll keep you updated once they hatch.
I'll definately keep you updated. They only have three eggs and I think that's all they're having for this clutc. They can have 3-5 eggs but I don't think they are since there's no more. They take turns sitting on them, though Sheila seems to do more of the sitting and Fitch just sits and sings to her.
In 2 weeks they should hatch (if fertle) and turn into odd looking little birds. But they get cute eventually.
What good parents they are. They both were sitting on the eggs earlier and when i went to check on them just now Fitch was bringing food to Sheila who wouldn't get out to let me see the eggs. I think they'll be very good parents when they hatch.
I decided to look at the eggs and after a few minutes getting Fitch to get out of the nest I noticed something was wrong. There were only 2 eggs and a furry little thing. So of course I got extreamly excited cause we now have 2 eggs and 3 finches!
The new baby's so cute. My dad and Harry thought the baby was dead but I watched for a little more and Sheila jumped in and stood on it. It was soon moving it's head and asking for food so we gave them fresh food and water. So the others should be hatching with in the next few days. I'll keep ya posted.
Well, I'm not sure. I don't really wanna give them to a pet store (cause they can be bought and fed to snakes) and I can't find anybody who'd take one in so we might keep them and get a bigger cage. We're still not sure though.
Yeah, they are pretty ugly when first born but I still think they're sute (even though they aren't too cute). When they first hatch, they have yellow fur like feathers which have now turned to grey and they're looking more like feathers. Both Fitch and Sheila will go out of the nest at the same time now and are starting to have to take night shifts because the babies are getting big quickly and there's not very much room for them inside the nest along with the babies so I can look at them easier. Once I'll try and get pictures of them, not sure how well they'll turn out though.
They're so cute now! They're getting feathers on their backs and have wing feathers and they've opened their eyes a few days ago (around when their first wing feathers came in). They also talk now! It's so cute. They sound raspier than their parents but theat'll change. Their parents sit outside the nest singing back and forth which I believe is teaching the babies to talk.
Wow, they talk a lot when one's getting fed cause they all wanna be fed at the same time. They're pretty loud, too. But it's cute. And we're gonna have more babies in this house. Erin's rat's pregnant!
