I have been gone for about 5 days and left my cockatiel in the care of my mom and sister. Now that I'm home I noticed a lot of feathers on the bottom of the cage and there seems to be a baldish spot on his head. Normally I would think this was molting but I came to believe that birds won't molt until they're six monthes and Cricket's only four monthes. Someone please help....
If your 'tiel is a Lutino Cockatiel, it is normal for it to have a small bald spot under its' crest. However, if your bird is not of that color mutation, it is not normal...even if it is molting. During a molt, your bird should have no bald spots. If there is another bird in the cage with your 'tiel, it could be plucking the bird bald. However, if this is not the case your bird should be taken to the vet ASAP.
