i'm 11 and just adopted two baby ringneck doves. before i adopted them they told me what happened to them, when they just hached they got attack by a cooper halk the motther died and they were left. thats how they ended up at the rescue. and i just need info about ringneckdove care.
I'm assuming they are old enough to eat seeds by themself?
If so, doves are really easy creatures to take care of. They need a mix of grains and seeds, available from a dove seed mix you can get at a feed store. Just make sure the majority of it is composed of red millet, small, red seeds. You should also give them fresh fruits like apples, pineapple, pear, kiwi, melons and others along with leafy green veggies like mustard greens, collard greens, bok choy and spinach. Just be careful about lettuce though, a little is OK, but lettuce has no vitamins or minerals so it doesn't really do much for them. You can also give them some cooked rice and pasta.
If you keep working with them, you can tame them too. Doves are very peaceful creatures, so they aren't hard to work with. Their soft beaks leave them incapable of biting, they may peck at you, but it won't hurt at all.
They can be kept indoors or out, doesn't matter. Just make sure that the cage is about the size of cage made for amazons and mini macaws. They do well in aviaries or flight pens too.
