Hey everyone. I have had 7 parakeets in the past and was interested in getting a new kind of bird. I am undecided between getting parakeets again or a lovebird. However I heard that lovebrids can be quite noisy, but make great loving pets. I would like to get a lovebird because I would like to have a bird that is a little bit bigger than the parakeet. If I got a lovebird that was handfed or like BABY would it be less likley to be noisy?what is the youngest you can buy a bird? And if lovebirds are noisy, are there birds that are loving like lovebirds but not as noisy? Are parrotlets very good pets?
Hey it's me again. Sorry I think I worded that whole thing making it look like I didn't do any research on my own...but I have. I was just in a rush for typing it. Anywho, I looked up and researched on lovebirds and found that they were very lovable and affectionate, but could be very noisy. How bad are their squeals compared to a parakeets? And I am also supposed to be the one that tames her so my sibbling that is 7 will be able to hold it and have fun with the bird. I would really love to have a bigger bird than the parakeets I once had, but would a parakeet be better for being around kids? Please let me know anything YOU know about lovebirds that you may think I might have overlooked. Thanks.
Lovebirds are very sweet...and can be saucey little guys as well. They're shrieks really aren't that bad, they jsut do them more often.
They can be territorial, and also nippy and often aggressive to other parrots(Some lovebirds will attack macaws...) So you may want to consider that if you plan on getting any mroe birds in the future.
A parakeet in my opinion wouldn't be any better around kids jsut because it is so hard to find a calm budgie. They are flighty and easily spook, a lovebird is much calmer. Neither of their bites are that painful, although lovebirds can make their dislikes known!
As an owner of a lovebird I'm slightly biased, but they do make wonderful pets! Make sure you get a hand raised, hand fed lovebird. If you get one that is hand raised or hand fed you won't have to tame since ti will already see people as its flock. The birds that aren't hand fed or hand raised usually make awful pets and are hard to handle just because they are scared and don't trust people.
Cockatiels are great as well, but are bigger than budgies and lovebirds. Although they do have calmer dispositions. Just a though, but in between a lovebird and a budgie I'd go with a lovebird. Peach face lovebirds(In my experience and stories from toher bird woners) Tend to be more affectionate and less nippy than Masked face lovebirds althoughBOTH make great companions. Jsut buy one, and make sure he or she is hand fed or hand raised.
